For years, women entering a London black cab believed they were simply taking a ride home.

According to the evidence presented in court, John Worboys used his position as a taxi driver to target female passengers, offering them drinks that prosecutors said had been spiked before sexually assaulting them.

In 2009, Worboys was convicted of offences against 12 women. But investigators later uncovered allegations involving many more potential victims, raising questions about how a pattern of offending could continue for years without being detected.
