1. Real charities never demand prepaid cards, wire transfers, or cash shipments. These are major red flags.
2. Verify every charity before donating. Use trusted sites like CharityWatch, IRS.gov or the organization’s official webpage.
3. Government agencies do NOT call asking for donations. Any such call is fraudulent.
4. Urgency is a tactic. Scammers create emotional pressure to stop you from thinking clearly.
5. Never keep donations secret. Legitimate charities encourage transparency, not secrecy.
6. If something feels off, stop immediately and call someone you trust. A second opinion can save thousands.
