In 1988, a plane carrying Pakistan’s dictator, General Zia Al Huq goes down, killing all aboard. That much is fact, but this book - narrated by the bumbling Ali Shigri, an army cadet - revolves around the speculation around what caused the crash (which has indeed never been solved). The general had no shortage of enemies who wanted him dead - but who was the one to finally succeed, or did several unlikely plans come to fruition at once?
The narration - both funny and tragic - takes us through all the different players and motives, mixing real people and events with more esoteric happenings. A clever book which makes me want to read more by this author. Brilliantly narrated.
