Corin Cadence finally has a firm reason to believe his brother, Tristan, is still alive. Unfortunately, finding more information isn’t going to be easy. Tristan appears to be entangled with a clandestine organization that calls themselves Whispers. And Corin’s last brush with the Whispers didn’t exactly end well.
As much as he wants to follow that lead, Corin has more pressing problems to deal with. Sera is still suffering from a mysterious malady that has stolen her voice and her magic. Corin knows that a portion of that is his fault, and he’s determined to fix it. His mother is still off in another country, and there are growing odds that she’s involved with a conspiracy to overthrow the visages.
Corin has also been branded with a new magical mark on his right hand - one that even veteran climbers don’t seem to recognize. He’s going to need to figure out how it works, otherwise it could be more of a vulnerability than an asset.
Corin still hasn’t finished his first year at Lorian Heights. If he fails his final exams, he’ll be sent off to the military and lose his chance to investigate his brother’s fate. And finally, there’s the issue of enemies. He might have made a few of them.
The biggest problem? He’s not sure if Jin, once one of his closest companions, is one of them.

Very enjoyable book. Best speaker experience ever.
I really liked listening to this and the first book. (I didn't check the next part of the series yet, because I dislike that its much shorter)
Even tho or maybe especially because the main character has his flaws and very own special way of thinking. You will not always agree with him. But that´s not what you have to. It is very nice and interesting to accompany him on his journey.
I listened to a lot of books in the past decades and the speaker Nick Podehl did here the best job I ever heard in an audio book. How he voices the main character is so perfectly fitting. And also all the other characters, the voices the styles of speech. Its wonderful.
If I have to rate it very critically, id say.. It´s perfect! period.
I'm going to miss this experience in my next audio book for sure. He should get a price for this performance if there exists one.

etwas langatmig wieder
die Geschichte ist so gut
und der Schreibstil gefällt mir wirklich
nur ziiieht sich die ganze Sache wieder und es wird etwas anstrengend bis zum Schluss dran zu bleiben...

Good book, poor pacing
I have also enjoyed the 4th Andrew Rowe I have encountered, Arcane Ascension 2 is another nice book for RPG fans. The characters are interesting, the magic system intricate. However, the plot does not really develop very well in this book. The problem is that the bigger picture is almost not dealt with until 18 hours into the book and much like in GRRM's latest book it seems that the author only then noticed that the overall plot should maybe be a bit developed in this book. That leads to so much happening in the last couple of hours that it feels clogged and hasted. Overall, the book is enjoyable no question! It will be a long wait for the 3rd but it is no masterpiece.

Eine Steigerung zum 1. Teil

as thrilling as the first book
this book starts off exactly where the last stops and continues being thrilling and captivating.
many questions are at leasy partly answered and several plots revealed. again, great work.
