Wow, what a great story

I would say about myself that I'm not really into spiritual topics. But this book is so much more as that. It is an encyclopedia of a good life, your best friend if you are open minded and a treasure for everyone who red and understood it.

Simple Language

The fable is told in simple english, which can be considered a feature. The key points of the book are strongly simplified, maybe sometimes too much. Still I would recommend this book as a simple and easy-to-follow introduction to life philosophy.

Brilliant Simplicity

Loved how the author told the story of the obvious that is right in front of us, but for some reason, we can't always see it.

I loved this audio book and am going to listen again to its entirety now.

Bad writing, mediocre content.

To be fair, there are some valuable insights in this book.
But not a lot. And those insights, that are there, can be found elsewhere in a much better format (see last paragraph below).
So, the pain of listening to an awfully written "story", to find a small nugget of content every other hour, is simply too much for my sensitive ears...

Here are the details:
This piece of literature can hardly be classified as a "story".
The enlightened ex-lawyer, who is now the monk, tells his former colleague the lessons he has learned in the Himalaya. But the lessons are basically ordinary advise you can find in any productivity or self-development guidebook. Nothing special about them. Nonetheless, to add some authority to these lessons, the monk starts every second statement with something like "As the ancient monks in the Himalaya have known for ages and passed on from generation to generblablabla... - this is the advise I want to give to you...". Im like 40% done and I heard this intro literally a hundred times...
The former colleague, on the other hand, is the eager student, who wants to learn more about what the monk has to tell. His contributions to the conversations are nothing more than some variations of "Tell me more!", "This is interesting!", "I've never heard something like that before!".

Cheap.

You know, it's like drawing a rectangle and and a triangle on top of it and calling that a house. Yes, technically it's a drawing of a house. But if you try harder just a tiny fraction, you can improve your drawing dramatically. And if you'd erase only half an inch of one of these lines, it's not even a drawing of a house anymore.
Same with that story. Yes, technically, it's a story, but only half an inch away from being a pamphlet.
I simply don't understand, why the author chose to write a "story" like this. An abstract or guidebook would have been the better choice. And instead of listening to 6 hrs of bad storytelling, I'd have the core content in 20 minutes and would be happy with what I've learned.

My advise is this: Read "The 7 habits of highly effective people", by Stephen Covey. At least 3 of the 7 principles are the same in both books (as I said, I didn't finish the Ferrari-Monk yet). But Covey can convince without any reference to the spiritual world and has better real-life examples and advise.
Case closed.

Not worth it.

Not worth it at all. Repeating the same old stories over and over and think with a title like this you'd have a good book. Now worth a penny.
