Join us! We're reading through this book: Mysticism: A Study in the Nature and Development of Spiritual Consciousness, Published in 1911. It is by Evelyn Underhill, she is absolutely incredible and lovely!
"She was a poet and novelist as well as a pacifist and mystic. An only child, she described her early mystical insights as "abrupt experiences of the peaceful, undifferentiated plane of reality - like the 'still desert' of the mystic - in which there was no multiplicity nor need of explanation" (wikipedia) ...I find her so intelligent, and yet open to explore all the mystical, this realm which is open to us all, in God, in Divine Love…
She influenced C.S. Lewis, for certain, from their correspondence-- and her book: "The Letters of Evelyn Underhill" was edited by none other than Charles Williams! Charles would meet with the group called "The Inklings"--which was comprised of JRR Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, among others... I was just reading a part of her amazing letter to Lewis about how his idea of God was too "tame"! "...I feel your concept of God would be improved by just a touch of wildness." (Evelyn) His "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" came out 10 years after that letter! (sited by: Carl McColman) ✨✨
