• Jesus is Betrayed and Arrested - Rev. Dr. Diane Janssen Hemmen
    Mar 1 2026

While Jesus is in the garden with his disciples, Judas comes with high priests and soldiers to arrest Jesus. “Put your sword back into its place; for all who take the sword will perish by the sword. Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels? But how then would the scriptures be fulfilled, which say it must happen this way?”

  • Good Even in the Garden - Rev. Dr. Rodger Nishioka
    Feb 22 2026

The Christian season of Lent is the forty days (not including Sundays) before Easter. The number 40 comes from the days Jesus spent in the wilderness being tempted by Satan. Lent is marked by personal and corporate reflection, sacrifice, and repentance. This Lent, we will accompany Jesus through his last two days before he is crucified. Together, we will journey through the five most significant and painful moments of Jesus' life before he enters Jerusalem for the last time. Together, we will carry the cross with Jesus.

Find out all that is happening on both our campuses during the sacred season of Lent—beginning with Ash Wednesday on Feb. 18 and leading up to Easter Sunday on April 5. Visit villagepres.org/lent.

  • For Embodying God's Treasure - Rev. Dr. Rodger Nishioka
    Feb 15 2026

We have a cherished legacy of 77 years of faith at Village Church, and by God's grace, we hope to be here for generations to come. To meet the needs of the present and to prepare for the opportunities of the future, our Session has approved the launch of a capital campaign beginning this month through 2028. The campaign hopes to raise 8 million dollars to expand and strengthen our mission and ministries, improve and make safe our gathering and learning spaces, be better stewards of God's creation, and show to all that they are welcome and belong. In this sermon series, Rev. Dr. Rodger Nishioka will explore the campaign's theme, “Here for Good.”

  • Do you want to be made well? - Rev. Zach Walker
    Feb 1 2026

Jesus asked a lot of questions. By one scholar’s count, Jesus asked 307 questions recorded in the gospels. Jesus liked to ask questions more than he liked giving answers. As Jesus was both fully God and fully human, you would think he would go around showing off how much he knows, but he did not do that. In fact, we only find eight times that Jesus answered a question asked of him. In this sermon series, we will explore four questions that Jesus asked to better understand Jesus and how he wants us to live today.

John 5:2-9 – Jesus meets a man who has been lying by the pool at Bethesda for 38 years, and he asks the man a seemingly absurd question.

Sunday service times are 9 a.m., 11 a.m., and 4 p.m. at the Mission Campus in Prairie Village, Kansas, and 10 a.m. at the Antioch Campus in Overland Park, Kansas. If you are unable to attend in person, you can worship online at https://villagepres.org/online or here on YouTube.
