• Potter Ray Studio S4 EP2 Justin Rives "Unordinary People"
    Feb 25 2025

Pottery and ceramics is one of the most ancient crafts transcending form and function, we interact with it on a daily basis and yet we seldom consider it. It can be as simple as coffee cup we use every day or as complex as an artists statue. In a time when many ancient crafts have gone forgotten pottery is alive and well and no place is that more true than in Justin Reeves’ Potter Ray Studio on Commerce street in Jacksonville TX. Justin Was kind enough to sit down and give a demonstration while also discussing his personal journey into the craft, and opening his own business. So please join me as we go and meet Justin Rives!

  • Hardcore Punk S4 EP1 Militant Defiant "Unordinary People"
    Feb 16 2025

Punk rock was born out of the Midwest in the late 1960s the disillusion of the Vietnam war mixed with an economic downturn left many feeling abandoned socially and politically. During this time Detroit bands such as Iggy Pop and the Stooges, MC5, and Death, would break through born out of blues rock but with more aggression and irreverence. Where many of the early punk bands incorporated a sardonic tilt to their music Death the only African American band of the proto-punk era would bring far more political and social aggression as well as more technical virtuosity as they were originaly a funk band. Death was the direct line from which Hardcore would be born harder faster, and more aggressive than other genre of punk with a keen focus on community and expressing your dissatisfaction with the status quo as loudly as possible. And that is were our men of the hour Militant Defiant come in, a Tyler based band first introduced to me by my brother I saw them live in the short lived Dead Street venue where I knew I was witnessing and participating in something special. So come with me as we go and meet Militant Defiant. • Best Artist in the World S3 EP24 Sean Green(Unordinary People)
    Nov 21 2024

Sean Green is an artist but more than that he is a marketer and storyteller. The commercial side of art is often looked at as the dirty unspoken portion of the business, a true artist doesn’t think about the monetary value but does their work solely for the love of the craft. Sean Green makes no bones about it, he does his work to sell. Not to say he does not love what he does or he is unskilled nothing could be farther from the truth, but he is an artist of the people, this is his job. He sets out to paint his pieces to sell, his goal to exchange value for value and his persona matches that perfectly. A street artist with stories to tell I hope you enjoy meeting him just as much as I did, so lets go and meet Sean Green! • The World in Abstract S3 EP23 Stephanie Clayton
    Nov 1 2024

A common criticism of abstract art is the often muttered “My child could make this..” This turn of phrase points out the ignorance of the critic more often than the lack of skill of the artist. When composing a realist piece of art the artist must consider proportion, balance, contrast, color, and weight. All these aspects must work in harmony to create a visually pleasing work of art, each aspect applied with intention and evoke different meanings, emotions, or experiences when looking at a piece. Now consider the task of applying those same aspects to evoke those same emotions without the help of a tangible representation. How do you evoke anger without referencing real life, imagine trying to convey the peacefulness of a landscape without trees sky or earth? This is the world in which Stephanie Clayton creates her art. Expertly weaving the abstract emotions and feelings into a canvas. So come with me as we go and meet Stephanie Clayton. Oct 26 2024

Coffee is a revolution it is the substance that pushed the western world through the industrial revolution, It has been the subject of conflicts, and it has been the center of community and conversation.

King Charles the 2nd banned coffee houses in 1675 in fear that conversations between the lower classes would lead to dissatisfaction with the ruling class. But weather it is across a kitchen table, the bar at a dinner, or in the oversize chairs of a coffee shop, It can not be denied that conversation and community can be found in a hot cup of Joe.

Today we meet with Ben Casey owner of Neighbors Coffee, a shop that sits at the heart of Jacksonville TX and its revitalization. So please grab your drink of choice and join me as we go and meet Ben Casey.

  • Worthiness and Demons S3 Ep20 Michelle Franklin (Unordinary People)
    Aug 10 2024

Many people get deterred when someone speaks about the spiritual when discussing the psychological. Most people seem to labor under the belief that somehow we can break down the human experience and emotion into the completely rational. Unfortunately that is about as useful as trying to define art which ultimately leads you down the road of the spiritual. We apply value to music, dance, poetry and experience which cannot be easily rationalized.

The religious texts held as the foundations for cultures maintain relevance even if you don’t accept them as literal, they reveal deep truths about human nature and psychology. Michelle Franklin or Michelle DI works in these deep truths and wants to ask you a simple question, “Do you feel worthy?” Do not simply look to some persona you have put on, instead ask your self, “Do you feel worthy”? that is the question I hope to resolve as we go and meet Michelle DI!

  • Velvet a Vintage Collection S3 Ep19 Bri Harden (Unordinary People)
    Aug 4 2024

Fashion has always been circular with previous styles inspiring the clothing and architecture years later. Consider how the architecture of Greeks and Romans inspired the neoclassical era of the 1700s, or how the 50s style became popular in the 80s. Typical its a form of nostalgia that inspires what is popular in fashion,The grunge era was a return to the 60s and 70s attitude of rebellion but also when Kurt Cobane and Eddie Veder where children, but now in the 2020s we can have a nostalgia for a time people of my generation never experienced. For sure Y2K has become a popular look but so has the 70s a time period that started 29 years before I was born a sign of our changing media landscape and perhaps a kinship of how people felt during those time periods.

Now however you face a problem, how do you find clothing so that you can fit into a fashion landscape that is over 40 years old. Well Bri Harden of Velvet a Vintage collection has you and other Tylerites covered! In our conversation we talk fashion, furniture, and how she started her clothing store. We had a whole lot of fun and I hope you will too as we go and Meet Bri Harden!
