Why are there four Gospels—and why don’t they all tell the story of Jesus the same way?
In this episode of Faith Explained, we explore the background, intent, and theological purpose behind each of the Gospel accounts—Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John—as well as the book of Acts. Rather than flattening them into four interchangeable biographies, this episode shows how each Gospel offers a distinct portrait of Jesus shaped by audience, historical context, and theological focus.
We’ll look at why Matthew emphasizes fulfillment and Torah, why Mark centers the suffering Messiah, why Luke highlights compassion and inclusion, why John presses deeply into Jesus’ divine identity, and how Acts continues the story through the work of the Holy Spirit and the early Church.
This episode is for anyone who has wondered why the Gospels feel different, how to read them faithfully, and how their diversity actually strengthens Christian theology rather than weakening it.
