• Episode 7 - The Unconventional Remedy of Christ (John 3:9-18)
    Feb 26 2026

In this episode of Unconventional Faith, we continue our conversation through John 3, picking up in verse 9 as Jesus challenges Nicodemus - a teacher of Israel - who still struggles to understand what it means to be born again.

Jesus points back to the bronze serpent in the wilderness - a moment in Israel’s history where healing didn’t come through effort, merit, or religious performance… but by looking in faith.

Then we arrive at one of the most quoted - and often misunderstood - passages in all of Scripture: John 3:16-18.

What does it really mean that God so loved the world?
What does belief actually look like?
And why is condemnation already the default condition of humanity?

This is not a call to try harder.
It is an invitation to look up.

  • Episode 6 -The Unconventional Truth (John 3:1-8)
    Feb 19 2026

In this episode, we begin our walk through John chapter 3 by focusing on Jesus’ nighttime conversation with Nicodemus - a Pharisee, teacher of Israel, and man who thought he already understood God.

Rather than affirming Nicodemus’ knowledge or status, Jesus immediately introduces an uncomfortable and deeply unconventional truth: “Unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

We slow the pace in this discussion, spending time unpacking what Jesus actually means by being born again, why Nicodemus struggles to understand it, and how this exchange reveals a truth that challenges religious confidence, intellectual certainty, and self-sufficiency.

This conversation only takes us through verse 8, but it lays the foundation for everything that follows in John 3; and forces us to ask whether we want information about God, or true transformation by Him.

  • Episode 5 - The Unconventional Authority of Christ (John 2)
    Feb 13 2026

In this episode of Unconventional Faith, we walk through the entirety of John chapter 2 - from the wedding at Cana to the cleansing of the temple. Together, these moments reveal both the compassion and authority of Christ, showing us a Savior who supplies joy, confronts false worship, and knows the hearts of men. John 2 challenges us to see Jesus not only as the One who provides, but as the One who reigns - calling us beyond shallow belief into true surrender.

***About halfway through the episode, there is a distinct sound deviation, that we couldn't remedy. After consideration, we left the episode intact, because of the conversation and topic discussed. I apologize for the issue!***

  • Episode 0B - Tom's Story: Who We Are - The Journey That Shaped Our Faith
    Feb 11 2026

Before we continue walking through the Gospel of John, we wanted you to know the men walking with you through this journey.

In this episode, we sit down for an in-depth conversation with Tom - one of the voices behind Unconventional Faith - a retired U.S. Army Green Beret who has served in combat, led men in high-risk environments, and walked through seasons that reshaped his understanding of God, leadership, and purpose.

From childhood and early worldview, through Special Forces selection and deployments, to the identity shift that comes with retirement, this conversation explores how faith is forged under pressure, and how God forms leaders through suffering, obedience, and surrender.

    This is not a résumé.
This is the story behind the uniform.
And the faith that was built in the fire.

This episode exists to establish trust, not impress -to share how God shapes men long before they realize it, and how true leadership is often formed in unseen places.

If you’ve ever wrestled with identity, calling, leadership, or who you are outside of your title - this episode is for you.

  • Episode 0A - Justin's Story: Loss, Healing, and the Faith That Rebuilt Me
    Feb 10 2026

Before we continue walking through Scripture together, we felt it was important to share the story behind the voice you’re hearing.

In this episode, Justin opens up about the journey that shaped his faith — from childhood and Special Forces, through combat loss, deep grief, infertility, and the devastating loss of a child.

This is a story of brotherhood and war…
of heartbreak, silence, and unanswered prayers…

and of the God who meets us in suffering and slowly rebuilds what pain shatters.

Justin shares how loss reshaped everything — his faith, his marriage, his identity, and his health — and how God used suffering to lead him into a life of healing, holistic living, and deeper dependence on Him.

This is not a story of having all the answers.
It’s a story of being found in the middle of the questions.

If you’ve ever walked through grief, trauma, loss, or a season that nearly broke you — this episode is for you.
