Paul begins a strong series of exhortations to Timothy to boldly teach and lead God’s people. His first big assignment is to pass the knowledge he gained from Paul on to other trustworthy learners.

Paul tells Timothy about the people who abandoned him as well as the one man that stood by his side named Onesiphorus. He will serve as a good example for Timothy to follow, and our students should follow it today!

Paul highlights the importance of Timothy’s ministry assignment from God, and commands him to be bold and unashamed of the gospel. Our students will receive ministry assignments from God as they grow up, and they need to step up and take them instead of choosing the easier path of least effort and avoiding them.

We studied the background and situation of Paul’s second letter to Timothy. Then we learned about how to express love for other Christians from Paul’s example in the first five verses of the letter.

The Old Testament King Uzziah was very blessed by God but grew proud and defied God’s priestly rules and his priests. Then God struck him with leprosy and exiled him because of his pride. Our students need to learn that their pride is also self-destructive and must be guarded against!

Jesus is called the true light that gives light and the new birth to all who receive him by faith. This Christmas, it is crucial that our students are not like those people who are blind to Jesus or those who willingly reject him.
