  • 1.6: Luke McGovern on Beasts, Language and the Best Type of Nut
    Jan 4 2024

Transfer Station returns with the first episode of 2024, featuring Madison based singer-songwriter Luke McGovern (he/him).

Luke McGovern's songs run the gamut, at times carrying a country twang, and other times following a more mystical wind carried in from the North Woods. He has been described as "If Townes Van Zandt were less cynical, more sober, and alive (Isthmus)", and works earnestly, through humor, to craft his songs. The Madison singer/songwriter is largely self taught and self produced, recording songs in closets, bedrooms, basements and garages. His new album Bestiary is a reflection on creatures- real and imaginary- and our relationship with them.

  • 1.5: Maddie Batzli of LINE on Synths as Rebellion and Music as Spirituality
    Jun 30 2022

Madison Indie band LINE's Maddie Batzli sits down to discuss the group's prolific couple years in the Madison music scene, as well as how the band formed and it's experience weathering the pandemic while promoting their first studio project.

LINE is a queer multi-genre, collaborative music project by artist Maddie Batzli. Maddie works as a solo artist and with bandmates Esther Chun Koch, Austin Lynch, and Will Ault to create songs ranging between reflective contemporary folk, moody indie rock, and electric synth pop. Personal reflection, queer love, and social commentary show up as common themes in LINE’s songs. Beyond the music, what makes LINE special is the apparent joy the band takes in playing together, and the chemistry that results from that friendship and shared drive. LINE operates under the premise that music is a means to collective healing and transformation.
