Über diesen Titel

Hi, I’m Heather Ferrier and i'm an accordionist and clog dancer from Stockport. And welcome to This is Mint, the podcast which talks to the creators, trailblazers and the movers and shakers of my favourite place in the world: the North of England.

Going from St James Park to Edgeley Park, the Lakes to Leeds and all the places in-between. I’m heading out on my travels to talk to the creatives who write, recite, make and are inspired by all the beautiful eccentricates and communities that surrounds these places. So come join me to find out why the North is a mint place to be, and to show that it’s not all grey skies and pies (although the pies are great).

Welcome to This is Mint.

  • Cheryl Beswick is Mint
    Aug 21 2025

Well hello there! I can't believe it but we are at the end of series one of This is Mint. Thank you so much to everyone who has listened and supported the podcast so far, it really means the world!

Today on the Podcast we have a very special episode for you in collaboration with Rochdale creates. Rochdale was awarded town of culture in 2025, and Rochdale creates are doing some amazing work to promote local arts, opportunities and everything in-between in the area. Please go and check out there work.

We are coming at you today from Ebor Studios, which is a artist studios space based in an old textile mill. I will be talking to the programming manager Marianne about her job running and keeping things running smoothly in the studios, as well as artist and creator Cheryl Beswick. Cheryl’s work contrasts pattern and often uses detail and ornamentation and working in collaboration with the community using knitting, embroidery, needle art and print, to promote traditional crafts. Cheryl is a huge enthusiast for style, design and decoration. Her work is a celebration of femininity and fragility, which is reflected in the material and motifs she uses. Her textile work fuses together traditional craft-based techniques that have historical associations with women, (embroidery, stitch work and applique) with more contemporary techniques of image making, like screen printing, illustration and etching, most recently Woollen Woods.
