  • Neurodiversity in Schools, Shame & the Need to Perform
    Jun 4 2026

In this episode of The SY-ED Way, we're joined by Elizabeth from SassyMac Schooling for a powerful conversation about neurodiversity, emotional safety, and what happens when children are expected to fit systems that aren't built for them.

As a former teacher, trauma-informed practitioner, and parent, Elizabeth brings a unique perspective from both inside and outside the education system.

    Together, we explore:

    • why so many children feel overwhelmed in school
    • the difference between behaviour and communication
    • how shame can quietly shape a child's experience of learning
    • why neurodiverse children often struggle in rigid environments
    • the pressures facing both teachers and families
    • and what education could look like when children are truly seen and understood

We also discuss Elizabeth's own journey away from mainstream education and her desire to create something that offers children both academic opportunity and emotional wellbeing.

This is a thoughtful, compassionate conversation that challenges assumptions and invites us to rethink what children really need to thrive.

Whether you're home educating, supporting a neurodiverse child, or simply questioning whether education could be done differently, this episode will leave you with plenty to reflect on.

  • Is School Starting Too Early? | Learning Beyond the Classroom with Sarah
    May 17 2026

In this episode of The SY-ED Way, we’re joined by Sarah from Nature Sparks for a thoughtful conversation around childhood, developmental readiness, and learning beyond the classroom.

Together, we explore why so many parents are beginning to question the pressure placed on young children, particularly within the UK education system where formal schooling begins at such an early age.

    We talk about:
    • whether children are starting school too soon
    • the importance of play, slowness, and connection
    • how nature supports emotional wellbeing and learning
    • what “real learning” actually looks like
    • and why children develop best when they feel safe, seen, and unhurried

This conversation is calm, reflective, and deeply reassuring for parents who feel something about modern childhood and education no longer feels right.

If you’ve ever wondered whether learning has to happen inside four walls, this episode is for you.

  • The Silent Struggle of SEN Children in School
    Feb 12 2026

In this episode of The SY-ED Way, we’re joined by Nathan from SENDHelp for an honest and thoughtful conversation about SEN children and the reality of struggling within the school system.

For many families, the challenges begin quietly. A child who feels overwhelmed. A child who masks all day and unravels at home. A child who is labelled difficult, behind, or too much. And parents left feeling confused, exhausted, and unheard.

Nathan brings lived experience and deep insight into the realities SEN children face in traditional school environments. Together, we explore what happens when needs are missed, misunderstood, or unsupported and why the conversation around education must include children who simply do not thrive within rigid systems.

In this episode, we talk about:

    • Why school can be particularly overwhelming for SEN children
    • Masking, burnout, and the emotional cost many children carry
    • The pressure placed on families to “wait it out”
    • What meaningful support should actually look like
    • Why listening to children matters more than protecting systems

This conversation is not about criticising teachers or dismissing school entirely. It is about recognising that one model does not work for every child, and that struggling does not mean a child is failing.

It is for parents who are seeing their child struggle and wondering if they are the only ones. It is for families who feel something is not right but are unsure what to do next. And it is for anyone who believes children deserve to be understood, not forced to fit.

As always, The SY-ED Way is about calm, honest conversations that centre children, parents, and trust.
