I’m your Host Andy Peterson and in this episode I have the privilege of interviewing one of the most well known triathletes in the history of the sport - Heather Gollnick.

Heather is a current Spartan athlete and former Professional Triathlete who enjoyed an amazing career on the triathlon world stage for well over a decade. She is a 5x Ironman Champion, 37 time Ironman Finisher, former Age Group National Champion, multi time member of Team USA and winner of over 200 multisport events.

Heather is currently the triathlon coach at Liberty University where she is busy developing Champions for Christ and is also a motivational speaker and one of the foremost authorities on “Mental Training” for sport. Her book TriathleteEQ addresses the fact that endurance sports are as much a test of your emotional endurance ability as they are a test of your physical ability.

Heather has been actively coaching athletes for over 20 years - both in triathlon and OCR. Her vast experience racing as a professional athlete has helped her successfully coach over 100 Ironman athletes to cross the finish line. Heather has gained a wealth of experience racing on an elite level that she loves to share with her athletes.

John is currently an area rep for Brevard County FCA in Florida and is an FCA Endurance teammate who has competed in 29 marathons to date with the 30th scheduled for early next year. We’re going to learn about his life long dedication to the LORD starting at age 24 and how he has shared the gospel and made disciples along the way - even while running marathons.

I had the privilege of also being on the call, and having just listened to it, it is apparent that the LORD has blessed FCA Endurance over the past year as ministries expand through bible studies, huddles, and other activities. That the Love of Christ is predominant in the lives of his followers on this call as heard through the testimonies of so many who love the LORD and are dedicated to this ministry is an overwhelming indication that there is a lot of momentum going into 2026. God’s grace is evident and plentiful in this ministry, and so if you want to be inspired, if you want to gain wisdom, if you want to be encouraged, then listen in to this wonderful celebration. In this episode I have the pleasure of talking with David VanEpps about his book that I would highly recommend titled, “In Our Weakness We Are Strong”.

There is so much information in this little book that we had to split this episode into two parts. In this first section, we get to know who Dave is and how he came to a saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. We also learn his life was like before that life changing decision, and how God has used him since then. He tells why he wrote the book, and we discuss the true definition of winning, the importance of being thankful, and many more lessons he’s learned while training for, and racing in, his first few endurance events.

I really enjoyed talking with Dave. He’s personable, humble, approachable, and a great story teller, which comes through not only in this interview, but in his book as well.

In this episode we share a comeback story unlike any other we’ve discussed on this show. Well, to call it a comeback is to do a disservice to the journey that our guest has been on.

On February 16th of this year, FCA Endurance Teammate, father of nine, and a husband to one for 34 years, and age group All American Bill Deaton hopped on his bike for another training ride. But it wasn’t just another training ride. Bill had planned to ride 25 miles - something he had done hundreds of times before, in his attempt to once again podium at the next race in his age group.

But this ride did not end well for Bill - no, far from it. The story I’m about to share is one that every cyclist dreads - and unfortunately, one that happens far too often. Maybe it happened to someone you know. Maybe it happened to you. It reminds me of the old saying: That there are two kinds of cyclists, those who have crashed, and those who will. And of those who will, the worst scenario generally involves a car, with getting hit by a truck being at the height of the severity scale. Yet that is exactly what happened to Bill. It is his prayer and hope that his story glorifies God and encourages you.

Despite his familiarity with podiums, Bill is not comfortable being in the spotlight, but he’ll happily step into it if there is a chance it will glorify his King - the Lord Jesus Christ.You can reach Bill on Facebook.

I Am Weak, I Am Strong: Building a Resilient Faith for a Resilient Life, with Jay Hewitt

After receiving a devastating brain cancer diagnosis, Jay Hewitt had a decision to make: Should he give up on faith, or practice what he preached and trust that with God all things are possible? In his book I Am Weak, I Am Strong, Jay chronicles his journey of turning toward Jesus even when circumstances urged him to turn away. Faith in action for Jay included competing in an IRONMAN triathlon while undergoing cancer treatment. His race was a grand gesture of love for his young daughter—and a call to resilience for all of us.
