Über diesen Titel

Slats is former military and a current airline pilot. Charlie is a national radio host (formerly) and current ne're do-well. They grew up, started families, and followed separate paths... but always remained the best of friends. NOT philosophers, life coaches, scholars, or role models, they're just two dads with microphones, and a long history of learning things in the hardest and often the most painful ways possible. Since nobody else (according to them) is doing a podcast, they thought they'd give it a go. They've been there, done that, and think they might just have wisdom to share that you may learn from. (But don't get your hopes up.) However, they CAN tell stories! Warning: Following THEIR advice may come with feelings of regret, confusion, or an overactive bladder. Trusting them may be unfortunate and predictable, but in the end, is totally on YOU.© 2026 Charlie Wilde & Slats Overspeed
  • Introduction To The Idiot Philosophers
    Apr 1 2026

Slats is NOT fond of his daughter's 18-year-old cat, Lilly, but his wife is VERY fond of her leaf blower... one of Charlie's least favorite sounds. They'll discuss their cross-country road trip that includes a stop in Dodge City, Kansas. Obviously, they HAD to stay at The Wyatt Earp Hotel but were amazed, as they checked in, to find that the huge picture of a man, hanging behind the check-in desk, was NOT Wyatt Earp! Since nobody else (according to them) is doing a podcast, they thought they'd give it a go. They've been there, done that, and think they might just have wisdom to share that you may learn from. (This is their first episode.) Slats is former military and a current airline pilot. Charlie is a national radio host (formerly) and currently a ne're do-well with a mic. They grew up as neighbors in grade school, started families, and followed separate paths... but always remained the best of friends.

  • Idiots Get The Blues
    Mar 28 2026

Slats Overspeed and Charlie Wilde talk to former Blue Angels slot pilot, Andy Talbott. (3/4 2015-2016) They talk about his humble beginnings in rural Kansas and catching the "flying bug" at the age of 4 with a trip to the Kennedy Space Center. He attended Kansas State University and Andy was eventually selected as a member of the US Navy's demo flight team.

Through his military career, Andy learned the importance (and secrets) of leadership, organization, attention to detail, and teamwork. He also applies those lessons to family and business and shares those insights in his public speaking engagements. His organization, T.O.P.P.S. Leadership Consulting ( (Talent, Obedience, Persistence, Precision, Success) offers practical lessons on building high-performing teams, embracing calculated risks, and turning adversity into legacy-building opportunities. His talks are tailored to empower audiences to enhance safety cultures, boost employee engagement, and achieve sustainable results – all with the goal of
making a meaningful difference in people's lives through positive change and personal growth.

After completing his Blue Angel tour, Andy reported to VFA-86 the “Sidewinders,” at NAS Lemoore, California for his Department Head tour in January of 2017. Among other things, Andy was also the Commanding Officer of Strike Fighter Squadron 143, the world-famous “Pukin’ Dogs,” consisting of 242 members and twelve F/A-18E Super Hornets. In 2023 his Squadron was recognized as the #1 Fighter Squadron in the U.S. Navy.

  • She Loves Me
    Mar 28 2026

Slats met his future wife, Katie, when they were both in high school. Over the next 15 years, they did their own thing, but it would become apparent to both of them that they were meant to be together. In this episode, "She Loves Me," he explains why his 28 year marriage is so strong, despite many ways he almost screwed it up. Charlie admires Slats for having such a strong, loving marriage but can't help if a little "snarcasm" comes through due to his own failed marriage. (But they'll about THAT on another episode of The Idiot Philosophers entitled, "She Loves Me Not.")

While nobody has the "secret" of a long, loving, solid marriage, Slats and his wife have weathered the challenges of staying together while being apart. Thanks to Slats' military service, then his chosen career as pilot for a major airline, that separation often brought them closer as a couple; a challenge while raising 3 children, but they did it and are as in love now as they've ever been.
