Fran quit her London city job and became a doula by the sea! Check out what prompted this change and how she manages to make home education fit around this new demanding but highly rewarding job.

With Fran Knee-Wright:I’m Fran, a birth and postpartum doula, founder of Rose + Nettle, mum of two, and very new home-edding parent. After almost a decade in PR and marketing, a cancer diagnosis six months after the birth of my second son prompted a fairly major rethink of what I wanted work, family life and motherhood to look like. I retrained as a doula and now support families through birth and postpartum, with a particular passion for helping parents plan not just to survive those early weeks, but to genuinely thrive. In September 2026, I began home educating my five-year-old son, adding phonics-game-inventor to the mix of running a business, freelance work and raising two small children. I’m figuring out in real time how to build meaningful work around family life, rather than constantly squeezing family life around work, and I’m very much not here to pretend I’ve discovered the perfect balance.-Fran's Website@rose_nettle_doula on Instagram

The holy grail of finding work to fit alongside home education is to have something you love doing, a product or service you truly believe in, flexible hours and a nice bit of money coming in.

This week we meet Vanessa who has found just this combination in her business and is bringing a bit of St Tropez to our doors.

With Vanessa Tarr: Vanessa is a home-educating mum of three from Kent, running her Tropic Skincare business alongside family life. Since joining Tropic in May 2025, it's become her main income, and she now leads a team across the UK. -Vanessa's Website@tropicbyvanessatarr on InstagramVanessa's Facebook page

I had so much fun recording this podcast with the wonderful Medicine Woman, Ruth Sabrosa! She's home educating three daughters and, as if that wasn't enough oestrogen flying around, has set up a business empowering women of all ages.

With: Ruth Sabrosa Ruth Sabrosa is Mother of three daughters, Script Supervisor and Hypnotherapist who empowers girls and women through menarche, menstruation, pregnancy, birth and motherhood. Since becoming a mother, she has worked on films such as Star Wars and the Marvels with strong female leads so hopes that life will mimic art and the feminine will rise. She wants to change the narrative for future generations and reclaim the sacred rites of passage from menarche to menopause. Rebellions are built on hope and her book sends out a message of hope to the next generation of girls.. Ruth's Website @ruthsabrosa on Instagram Ruth's Facebook page
