• PRE36 - The Southern Origins of Funk - Part 1
    Nov 11 2023

Like most forms of American music, Funk takes much of its influence from the music of the early South. The family tree is complicated, but Funk channelled gospel, blues, jazz and afro-cuban rhythms into a new creation that would become the voice of its generation, and influence music all over the world in generations to come.

On this episode, Badd Kitti examines Southern Funk, from both various regions and time periods. Hop on board this southern excursion starting in Georgia with Funk's founding father, James Brown in the 60s, on through to Texas with Lizzo in the new millenium - and plenty of stops in between.
