Patricia nació en Guatemala y estudió artes teatrales, comunicación y educación para convertirse en maestra. Desde los 14 años, Patricia se involucró en el mundo del teatro para apoyar a su madre, quien siempre había querido ser actriz. A los 15 años, Patricia fue presentada en televisión en Guatemala por su trabajo en el teatro. Patricia habla sobre cómo esta experiencia fue el comienzo de su trabajo intergeneracional.

    Patricia también habla sobre su vida de casada, sus dos hijos en Guatemala y cómo el traslado de su esposo a los Estados Unidos fue la razón por la que ella lo siguió en 1990. Patricia se dio cuenta rápidamente de que se necesitaban más servicios en español y decidió llevar la educación a la comunidad de habla hispana mediante la realización de obras de teatro que hablaran sobre temas importantes como la prevención del VIH en mujeres, la inmigración y mucho más.

    Hoy en día, Patricia es la Directora Ejecutiva de
    Generaciones en Acción, cuya misión es ayudar a las familias y organizaciones inmigrantes multigeneracionales a obtener acceso a la educación, capacitación y actividades culturales que contribuyen a su bienestar personal, desarrollo profesional, habilidades de liderazgo e impacto comunitario.

    Hello, and welcome to this week's episode of our podcast. Today, we have an extraordinary guest, Arburtha Franklin. Arburtha is not only a former client but also a staff member at The TransLatin@ Coalition. Arburtha has an incredible story to share today, so let's dive right in.

    Arburtha grew up feeling different from those around her. As a person of color attending a predominantly white school, Arburtha had to endure a lot of discrimination and racism. However, she never let that stop her from pursuing her love of learning. However, Arburtha's life drastically changed when she was sentenced to 23 years in the California State Prison system. Still, it wouldn't stop her from excelling in school and being able to attend college. 

    Arburtha shares with us what prison life was like for her. She talks about the challenges she faced, the friendships she made, and the hope that kept her going. Arburtha's resilience is truly inspiring, and her outlook on life today is a testament to her strength.

    Now, Arburtha is a staff member at The TransLatin@ Coalition. She is dedicated to helping others going through the same struggles she faced. She is a role model for anyone who has faced adversity and come out stronger on the other side.
