This Music Doesn’t Belong To You

In the late 90-s and early 2000’s the Uk saw an explosion of bands that loosely fitted under the umbrella of punk. Hundreds of bands played up and down the country playing thousands of shows each year. In this season’s podcast Chas interviews ket members of that scene and try’s to uncover the reason why hardly any of the major press gave this scene coverage and if some of those DIY ethics can help us now in ever day life.

Dave is an old mate. He’s one of those people when ever you catch up with them, you always leave feeling happier and more positive. A 90s punk kid and a connoisseur of the more lo-fi uk scene in the 90s, Dave’s band got signed to a major and he lived the dream. Washing up on the shores of California, Dave became a producer working with some incredible bands. I’ll let Dave update you on who they are. This interview got me super hyped to listen to the older punk band sin the uk and fuck it, I’m going to have Dave on again just to reminisce about those underground legends of the UK scene. Anyone, I hope you enjoy it and much love, Chas

  • Sam McGregor: Signature Brew, Grown at Home
    Oct 20 2025

Sam McGregor was a member of the British ska punk band Grown at Home and is the cofounder of Signature Brew, founded in 2011 with his cousin Tom in an attempt to improve the terrible quality and variety of the beer available at live music shows. Since then they’ve produced countless collaboration brews with British bands and musicians, and built their company into a multimillion pound concern which employs over 100 people. Signature Brew now owns three venues, hosts regular live music and is London’s biggest independent brewery.

Chas chats to Sam about how being in a DIY punk band has informed his career in business, what it’s like to try and be a founder who isn’t a bastard and whether your job can make you happy. There are surprisingly few references to Alan Partridge.

The theme music is ‘Stop I Want to Get Off’ by Big Fin aka Matt Reynolds, whose music can be found at https://matthewreynolds.bandcamp.com/music
