  • Ep.41 | Why I Love the Gospel of Mark: Following Jesus the Servant King (Mark 10:35–45)
    Jul 14 2026
The Busy Disciple Podcast — Episode 41: Why I Love the Gospel of Mark — Jesus the Servant King (Mark 10:35–45)

If there's one Gospel that never lets me get comfortable, it's Mark.

Everything moves quickly. Jesus is always on the move—teaching, healing, serving, confronting evil, and calling ordinary people to follow Him. Mark's Gospel is full of urgency because the mission of Jesus is urgent.

But what I love most about Mark isn't just the pace.

    It's the picture of Jesus.

Matthew shows us Jesus the King.
Mark shows us Jesus the Servant King.

In Mark 10:35–45, Jesus completely redefines greatness. While His disciples are arguing about positions of honor, Jesus teaches them that greatness in the Kingdom isn't measured by power, recognition, or status—it's measured by humble service.

    Then He points to Himself:

"For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many."

In this episode of The Busy Disciple Podcast, we continue our Gospel series by exploring why I love the Gospel of Mark and why it continually challenges me to follow Jesus with humility, urgency, and wholehearted obedience.

    We'll explore:

    • Why Mark presents Jesus as the Servant King
    • How Jesus redefines greatness in God's Kingdom
    • The difference between worldly success and Kingdom significance
    • Why serving isn't a distraction from discipleship—it is discipleship
    • How busy disciples can reflect the heart of Jesus through everyday acts of humble service
    • Why following Jesus means surrendering our agendas to the Father's will

In a culture that tells us to climb higher, build our platform, and make a name for ourselves, Mark reminds us that the path of Jesus is different.

The King of the universe knelt down to serve.

And if we're going to follow Him, we'll do the same.

🎧 Listen now to Episode 41: "Why I Love the Gospel of Mark," and discover how the Servant King transforms the way we lead, serve, and follow Jesus every day.

  • Ep.40 | Why I Love the Gospel of Matthew: Following Jesus the Teacher King (Matthew 6:19–24)
    Jul 6 2026
The Busy Disciple Podcast — Episode 40: Why I Love the Gospel of Matthew — Jesus the Teacher King (Matthew 6:19–24)

There’s something about the Gospel of Matthew that keeps drawing me back.

Matthew doesn't simply introduce us to Jesus as our Savior—he reveals Jesus as our Teacher and King. From the Sermon on the Mount to the Great Commission, Matthew continually reminds us that following Jesus is more than believing the right things. It's learning to live under His loving authority every single day.

In Matthew 6:19–24, Jesus challenges the deepest loyalties of our hearts. He reminds us that where our treasure is, our heart will be also—and that no one can serve two masters. For busy disciples, those words couldn't be more relevant.

In this episode of The Busy Disciple Podcast, we begin a new series through the Gospels by exploring why I love the Gospel of Matthew and why I believe every disciple needs to spend time sitting under Jesus' teaching.

    We'll explore:

    • Why Matthew presents Jesus as the promised King and ultimate Teacher
    • How discipleship is about obedience, not just information
    • What competes for our loyalty in today's busy world
    • Why following Jesus requires surrender, not simply admiration
    • How Matthew calls us to build every area of life on the words of Christ
    • Practical ways to live with Jesus as King in your everyday decisions

Matthew reminds us that Christianity isn't just about knowing Jesus exists.

It's about allowing Him to reign over our priorities, our schedules, our relationships, our resources, and our hearts.

Because Jesus isn't looking for admirers.

    He's calling disciples.

🎧 Listen now to Episode 40: "Why I Love the Gospel of Matthew," and discover why Jesus is not only the Savior who rescues us—but the King who is worthy of our complete obedience.
