The Shepherd’s duty is to find these remains and end them through ritual, guiding what’s left safely beyond.Horrified, the narrator tries to escape the town. The attempt ends in a violent, supernatural incident that proves the truth—the role is binding. Distance means nothing. Doorvale has claimed them.When the old Shepherd dies, the burden transfers completely. Alone, feared, and unseen, the narrator accepts the role they never wanted.
