🎃 The Temple Barred Podcast — Halloween Special: The Masks We Wear 👻

In this Halloween Special of The Temple Barred Podcast, we dive deep into the origins, meaning, and modern symbolism of Halloween, tracing it all the way back to ancient Irish Samhain rituals — the Celtic festival that marked the New Year, harvest, and thinning of the veil between the living and the dead.

We explore the evolution of Samhain into modern Halloween, from Irish pagan traditions and folklore to how these customs crossed the Atlantic and transformed within American history and culture.

Alongside the history, we reflect on the philosophical and psychological sides of Halloween — the masks we wear every day as fathers, sons, friends, and coworkers, and how these roles reveal the duality of human nature: light and shadow, life and death, fear and love.

Tune in for a thought-provoking mix of ancient mythology, modern spirituality, cultural evolution, and personal reflection — a journey through the mystery and meaning of Halloween, from old Irish Samhain fires to the global celebration of today.

Episode 54 – Flying Without Wings | Temple Barred Podcast

In this powerful social commentary podcast, hosts Jim Wynn and Philip Non take a hard look at political polarization and how left vs right politics keeps us locked in endless conflict. The conversation begins with the shocking news of right-wing commentator Charlie Kirk being shot and killed—an event that instantly sparked bitter tribal disagreements between left and right online. From outrage to celebration, the extreme reactions reveal how deeply tribalism in politics has taken root, reducing complex human lives to little more than symbols for one side or the other.

But Flying Without Wings isn’t just about political tribalism. This Temple Barred Podcast episode expands into synchronicities, personal stories, and the strange symbols life presents us if we’re willing to notice them. Jim and Philip challenge listeners to see people as individuals, not just categories, and to search for balance beyond political extremes.

If you’re looking for a podcast on why politics divides us, or one that blends sharp social commentary with reflections on synchronicity, humanity, and how to overcome political division, this episode offers raw honesty, humor, and a call for unity in a divided age.

  • Episode 52 - Morality
    Aug 28 2025

    right and wrong

Morality has always been in motion—shaped by time, place, and perspective. What one culture praises as virtuous, another may condemn; what one generation sees as progress, the next may view as decline. In this podcast, we dive into the shifting nature of right and wrong, exploring how morals evolve across societies and centuries, and why the answers we cling to today may not be universal or permanent.

By examining these changes, we also ask a bigger question: if morality is so fluid, what might it mean to embrace one another beyond rigid judgments? Perhaps the greater challenge—and opportunity—for humanity lies not in enforcing one timeless definition of virtue, but in learning to accept people as they are, within the shared framework of law, respect, and coexistence.

  • Episode 51 -Transitions
    Aug 11 2025

We are all moving—quietly, constantly—from one self into another. The child becomes the youth, who becomes the adult, who becomes the elder. None of these selves is final; each is a passing chapter in a book we’re still writing. We carry the echoes of who we were, even as new versions of us take shape in ways we don’t always notice until we look back.

When we remember that everyone around us is also in transition, it softens the sharp edges of judgment. That impatient coworker may be in the midst of grief. The friend who drifts away might be becoming someone who needs different things. Even the stranger who irritates us is just another human mid-stride between yesterday and tomorrow.

And yet, in our rush to assess others, we often ignore the same traits within ourselves. We condemn the stubbornness we, too, have clung to. We criticize the fear we’ve also felt. It’s easier to see another’s flaws than to face our own reflection—but the truth is, the mirror works both ways.

If we accepted that each of us is a work in progress—unfinished, changing, and, yes, flawed—perhaps we’d be slower to judge and quicker to understand. After all, the same tide that carries them forward is carrying us, too. None of us is fixed. We are all, in our own way, still becoming.
