  • Trump's State of the Union address.
    Feb 25 2026
On Tuesday night, President Donald Trump delivered the first State of the Union address of his second term (Trump addressed a joint session of Congress last year, but it was not an official State of the Union). During the speech, Trump focused predominantly on domestic issues, but said that he would “never” allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon. His speech lasted approximately one hour and 48 minutes, surpassing last year’s speech as the longest presidential address to Congress in modern history.

  • The Undecideds: One Year Later
    Feb 25 2026

One year ago, we wrapped up a months-long series following five undecided voters across the country — people who, like millions of Americans, were trying to sort through the noise of a divisive, turbulent election at a moment when trust in institutions was fraying, norms were being tested, and the stakes of the decision felt unusually and perilously high.

From March of 2024 until the week of the election, we followed their reactions to criminal trials, assassination attempts, debate meltdowns, convention chaos, and a last-minute change at the top of the Democratic ticket. In the end, they all made a decision, some definitively, some reluctantly.

Now it’s February 2026. Donald Trump is one year into his second term, and we wanted to check back in. How do they feel about the vote they cast? What’s surprised them? What’s worried them? And what has given them hope?

We reached out to all of our original participants. Zahid chose not to return for this follow-up for reasons he didn’t disclose. But Claire, Brian, Diana, and Phil were willing to pick the conversation back up — and reflect on where they are now, one year later.

  • The cartel violence in Mexico.
    Feb 24 2026
On Sunday, Mexican security forces killed cartel leader Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes — known as “El Mencho” — and multiple others in a military operation assisted by U.S. intelligence in Tapalpa, Jalisco, in Western Mexico. Oseguera was wounded in a violent clash with Mexican special forces and died while being flown to Mexico City. In response to the killing, shootouts, explosions, and over 250 vehicle blockades and arson attacks spread across Jalisco, as well as the nearby states of Michoacán, Guanajuato, Colima, and Tamaulipas.
