I work with children in a high-needs urban setting. The students are exposed to high levels of violence. Often times they come to school with a lot on their minds, having witnessed so many traumatic events inside and outside of the home. In this series titled "Student & Teacher Coping Mechanisms" we are going to explore the influences that affect our choices and decisions - here, referred to as our coping mechansisms. We will get into the theoretical science portion each week while coming to understand these two perspectives (student & teacher) with personal stories spoken with passion and realism. In Episode 1: Secrets In A Shoe Shine Box, you will here the story of a six/seven year old bi-racial boy as he vividly shares his coping mechanism (photos) for the traumatic events happening around him.
