  • Episode 41: Thoughts on the New Pope, Catholic Social Teaching (Socialism & Family), & Pope Leo XIII
    May 29 2025

Nico and Shane are joined by Shannon Braswell to share their opinions about the newly enthroned Robert Provost (Pope Leo XIV).

The New Pope stated that he was inspired to take the name Leo after Pope Leo XIII (reigned from 1878 to 1903), the founder of Catholic Social Teaching. The guys look at Pope Leo XIII's encyclical Rerum Novarum, that established Catholic Social Teaching. The encyclical articulates a stance on Economics (the responsibilities between the working classes, managerial classes, wealthy, and the state) along with the Church's stance on the role of Women, and the dignity of the Family Unit.

In a brief conversation, the guys hash this out.

    Dec 19 2024

In this very special Christmas Episode, Nico and Shane were joined by Justin Lewis, founder of Turtle Hat Kava.

The conversation begins with a discussion and taste of Kava (History, Culture, and Myth). Justin explains what life is like on the islands that grow Kava and how different it is from the West. This comparison, ushers in an analysis of Western Culture and an examination of "what went wrong?" Everything from Social Engineering during the World Wars to the Normalization of Trauma in American Life are discussed.

Kava is an exotic drink from the South Pacific, starting it's cultural ascent in the United States. It's like a relaxing coffee; a coffee that calms. Justin's Organization imports Kava from small farms in the Pacific, most of whom he personally knows and regularly visits. These Kava Farmers use traditional methods of cultivation, no chemicals or pesticides. Turtle Hat Kava is the farmer's representative stateside.
