The Exorcism is one of those movies that tricks you into thinking it is about demons when it is really about actors losing their grip on reality in the most Catholic way possible. This is a meta possession story that leans into madness paranoia and the uncomfortable truth that sometimes the scariest thing in the room is an aging movie star having a breakdown on camera. It is weird unsettling and somehow still funny in that I probably should not be laughing at this way.
