In John 8:48–59, Jesus takes this same divine name upon his lips, declaring, “Before Abraham was, I am.” Lent invites us to slow down and listen carefully, and this week we hear the astonishing claim at the heart of the Christian faith: the God who once spoke from fire and flame now speaks in human flesh, drawing near so that he might be known.
