Tim Conners invites Johnny to Montana to celebrate the birth of his child and at the same to time to look into the Henderson matter. It's a case of death under mysterious circumstances. The one thing that is known is that the insured person turned up dead after falling from a hotel room window, but nobody knows whether he was murdered, committed suicide, or had an accident. $25,000 will be paid out if it was an accident, but if it was murder or suicide then the policy will be void.

A university lecture is down in his cellar digging up the floor when his nagging wife catches him. She asks him what he's doing and he explains that he is planting some rare flowers called "Devil Orchids".
