We tell children to be good, as if they can be. But nobody can be good without a lot of help. God tells his people to be holy, good, righteous, because God is, and then he says something extraordinary: that he will do what it takes to make us good like he is. Today's passages say more about it what it takes to be good for a lifetime: Leviticus 19-20, Mark 8, Psalm 43, Proverbs 10:17.

Broken relationships, poor health, missed opportunities... The list of things we think need changing so that we can live freely is endless. But today's passages tells us that freedom isn't found in these things. It's found in receiving forgiveness, trusting, and celebrating, and all regardless of circumstances.

The ways I try to add to what Jesus has done are legion. From reading my Bible to exercising, gardening to hosting, playing with grandkids to tidying, I look to just about everything to tell me I'm good enough, rather than to the One who died to make me his. These passages say more about the big deal that Jesus is and how I can find him: Leviticus 10, Mark 4:21-41, Psalm 37:30-40, Proverbs 10:6-7.
