  • 124: Independence Day, Big Willy Will Smith and Doctor Robert Donkenplopper
    Feb 17 2026

On today’s episode, the big aliens blowing up things blockbuster from 1996: Indepedence Day. Directed by Roland Emmerich, and starring William Smith and Jeff Goldblum, how has this ‘America leads the Free World’ type story fared over the years? How was Big Willy the biggest star of the time?

It’s a bad long film. Sorry. The chat’s fun though.

  • 123: 2003: A Year at the Cinema
    Feb 10 2026

The Ticket Stub Journey comes to a close. What a year 2003 (twenty oh three) was: Adaptation, Confessions of a Dan, Matrix Reloaded… Just Married and more!

Adam digs through his faded stubs, saw lot of trash, not many double bills, and vaguely remembers who he was back then. What seat did he sit in? How much was the ticket?

Note: it’s The Dancer Upstairs, not the Dancer… and the ‘Bob’ Kinnear mistake was definitely intentional.

  • 122: The Patriot, Big Mel, and the Sister-in-Law
    Feb 3 2026

It’s Big Mel; he’s back… and this time it’s not Scotland, it’s America he saves. Hailing from 2000, the Roland Emmerich’s directed The Patriot hits our eyes - and boy, at 2 hours 45 mins, does it hit.

The factual history is all over the shop… but is this actually watchable? Find out, Joe and Adam get waylaid by Andrew Garfield (Good Choice/Bad Choice), and they muse for far too long about Big Mel macking on his dead wife’s sister. It’s an epic chat, fitting for an epic movie.

  • The Untouchables, Why It’s Great, and De Palma Delight
    Jan 20 2026

It’s the wonderfully straightforward The Untouchables (1987). Directed by Brian De Palma and starring Costner, Connery and De Niro, this crime flick is still tip top - how could anyone forget they forgot it? Why is it not chatted about more? Is it because it’s not ‘cool’?

Joe and Adam ponder why the film works so well, digging into Ennio Morricone’s score and David Mamet’s script. Meanwhile, Peter Bradshaw calls in to chat to Brian.

  • 120: Knocked Up, Apatow Apathy, Jim Carrey Joy
    Jan 13 2026

Judd Apatow’s late 2000s rom-com-dram Knocked Up gets dusted down, mulled over, chewed on. The film was massive, but who thinks
    of it ever now?

Is Apatow overlooked generally? And the big tangential question is asked: Who’s funnier Jim Carrey or Jack Black?

Plus a phone call and the Box Office Game, and the Picking the Next Episode’s Film segement.

  • 118: 2002: A Year at the Cinema
    Dec 30 2025
You know the score: Adam rediscovers his ticket stubs from the year of the same name: 2002. It’s an in-the-moment ‘live’ recollection of what he saw, who he was, where he sat, and how much it cost. Turns out 2002 was a real banger of a year. What did you see in 2002? What was the best flick of 2002??
