The island was inhabited by mostly by birds, one of which was Dodo who had lost its ability to fly owing to safe and threatless island. But everything changed in the late 16th century when Dutch colonized the island and the safe haven turned into a scary place for Dodos. Humans killed them mercilessly for meat and fun, and eventually Dodos got extinct.
