    Welcome back for episode 12 of Lift The Curtain, the podcast where talk to people in the creative industry, in its widest spectrum. 

     

    This week we head over to the Californian desert, to talk to our guest Hollywood raised singer/songwriter Pearl Charles. Pearl got to hone her craft, touring around the States and the world, and released her last album 'Magic Mirror' last year.

     

    As she waits to head back on the road, both US and Europe bound early next year, we got to catch up and talk about her creative upbringing, some of her early influences, getting shaken down in Mexico, how she got her band together, her creative process, one of our best name drop minute yet, and as usual, some tricks and tips on how to make it and become a successful musician!

    Welcome back for episode 11 of Lift The Curtain, the podcast where talk to people in the creative industry, in its widest spectrum. 

     

    He's the drum for Nottingham band Kagoule (and a damn good one at that), but on this chat with Lawrence James English, we focus on his illustration work. With a style like no other and instantly recognisable, he designed all of the band's discography, as well as a good bunch of tattoos, and murals.

     

    He talks to us about his training, or lack thereof, his favourite medium, his inspirations, whether he'd let anyone design the artwork for the band. And as usual, amongst other things, the name drop minute and how to make it at an illustrator, and some tricks and tips on how to get started.

    Welcome back for episode 9 of Lift The Curtain, the podcast where talk to people in the creative industry, in its widest spectrum. 

     

    From this week, and over the summer, i'll be releasing episode every other Wednesday, to give myself a bit of breathing room, and focus on making the best content i can! We should be back on normal schedule later in the year, and will keep on putting out great chit chats until then!

     

    Today we're talking to Lindsay Melbourne, a London photographer based in Sheffield. Her work has been featured in the NME, Clash Magazine, Kerrang and DIY to name but a few. She’s photographed many amazing bands and artists such as JOHN, Los Bitchos, Daisy Lowe, Yak, Black Honey, Bambara, Jamie T, Idles and many more.

     

    And speaking of Idles, she was also associate producer to the Bristolian band’s movie documentary Don't Go Gentle by director Mark Archer, who came out last year, as well as the founder of gigantic online community and IDLES fan club AF Gang

     

    We talk about motherhood, her beginnings in photography, some of the biggest gigs she covered, how to become a successful photographer, how to get published, and a myriad of other things!

    Terrible Group, formerly Terrible Merch, are one of the best in the biz when it comes to get said merch made, and unlike many other competitors, they always have the band's best interest at heart, and this week i talk to Tersha Willis, the brains and muscles behind the whole operation!

     

    Tersha drops some wisdom on what it takes to start your own company and succeed, some of the caveats of being a woman in a rather patriarchal industry, the incredible people she gets to works with (Mark Ronson, Jai Paul, PJ Harvey, Groove Armada, are just a handful of the gigantic 400 strong roster they have developed), and just some amazing tips on how to follow you dreams and make it happen, in true Lift The Curtain fashion!

    When Declan Mehrtens, aka Dec Martens, aka Dj Snowy Keys isn’t busy selling out venues across the world with 4 piece punk band Amyl and the Sniffers, he’s braving his fear of technology to have a talk with me for Lift The Curtain!

     

    Calling from his house in Melbourne, Australia, we touch on working for Big W, how he started playing guitar, the rise of Amyl and the Sniffers, working with Gucci, what anti-hipsters are, his disdain for craft beer, to name but a few things. And as usual, some tricks and tips on how to become a successful band, and an ever better human.

     

    Including technical issues, this took roughly 3:30 hours to record, but oh-was it worth it in the end!
