  • Keep Talking #3: Jehnny Beth talks releasing a debut album during the pandemic, mental health and more
    Jan 7 2021
Back in August 2020, Stewart Baxter had the pleasure of catching up with one of his biggest inspirations, Jehnny Beth. On the experience of meeting Jehnny, Stew says: "I first witnessed Jehnny performing with her band Savages on the Jools Holland TV show back in 2012, a performance that made the hairs on my neck stand up, and that I talked about for weeks, months and years afterwards.. I quickly realised everything Jehnny did blew was going to be amazing and the respect I have for her as an artist was only deepened when she invited my band LIFE to perform on the pilot of her new tv show ECHOES when I had a chance to meet her in person. Jehnny is a sweetheart, and a kind soul. An unparalleled artist who doest ask for permission, or forgiveness." In this conversation Jehnny and Stew get talking about anxiety and mental health and how this plays a part in art, Jehnny’s home and early life growing up in a theatre, working with Atticus Ross and Flood, her longterm relationship with partner and collaborator Johnny Hostile, and how it felt to release her debut album and debut book in the middle of a global pandemic.

  • Keep Talking #2: Lee Kiernan of IDLES on touring, mental health and lockdown
    Nov 6 2020
In this episode I caught up with Lee Kiernan, guitarist for the band IDLES. I recorded this podcast back in July, at a time when neither of us new when we would get to play in a band again. We didn’t yet know that IDLES third album Ultra Mono would become number one in the UK charts, outselling the top 5 artists combined becoming the fastest-selling vinyl of 2020 so far. We also talk about life on and off the road, from world tours to lockdown, and how all of these things have affected Lee’s physical and mental health. We discuss lee’s love for classic rock music, our shared passion for photography and the time we toured Europe together.
