A new and formidable figure enters the fray. Monios, an ancient warrior of the Udaico whose life has been sustained for two millennia by his obsidian blade, returns to the ruins of Caer Uahm. Driven by a blood contract and a centuries-old score against a cult leader known as the Axe, Monios finds his path crossing with Kaelan’s.

As Kaelan seeks to reclaim her Black Locust bow and her identity from the shadows of the manor house, she must decide if she can trust this ageless stranger. Together, they prepare to face alert, grey-skinned soldiers and the perverted power of the Star-Iron in a desperate bid for reclamation and revenge.

Drawing on the "righteous fury" of a past defined by betrayal, she must use her "studious eye" to craft an escape from nothing but bone, bronze, and blood.
