Hello everybody. My name is Adam Evers, I am the CEO and founder of believr and this is inside believr, building an LGBTQ plus Christian dating app. Um, so before we get started, uh, yes, this is the first episode. Hello, welcome, welcome, welcome. I'm super excited that you're listening to this and you're here. Um, but I wanted to go through quickly what you should expect from this podcast. Um, so what this podcast is designed for is really for me, uh, and the rest of the team to update the broader community, um, cause there's, we have a lot of questions about what are you guys doing, when is it coming out? Which are all really, really good questions and I want to answer them. Um, so we decided to build out a podcast.Uh, we're also going to be talking about really the nitty gritty and answering a lot of the, why questions, you know, why did you build this feature this way? Or why did you not include this? Or why did you, why did you include this? And, um, that will get more detailed later on, uh, within the season and within the later episodes. But, uh, for now, I'll leave it there. So, yeah. Um, I hope you guys will, will join and subscribe. And if you do have any questions about anything, you can always reach out to me directly. My email is adam@believr.app. Again, it's adam@believr.app. So feel free to shoot me an email, I would love to hear from you if you have any questions or ideas or suggestions. Um, I love talking to users about the product and so yeah, feel free to do that.Okay, so now let's get into some fun stuff. Um, so first and foremost, um, we do have a team that's working on things. Um, and actually this next week, we here, we're going to be, going to be reviewing uh, what we're going to be building within the first version of the product. Um, so the first version uh, what we're calling it is it's called an MVP, that stands for minimum viable product. Um, think of it as like a beta product, if you will. Um, so it's really like what is the, the core, the base that's going to be different between us and other dating apps, that's what we're going to be building out. Um, so there's two specific features that we think are, um, that are key differentiators between us and other people that were going to be building out. Um, so the first one is a public chat room.Um, so one of the things that I really liked when I was growing up is, uh, I used AOL instant messenger aim all the time. I would come home from school and jump on and like chat with people and that type of thing. Um, and I personally, uh, still enjoy doing that to some extent and, uh, we've kind of done some testing and talk to some users and we said, "Hey, we'd like, would a chat room be interesting and would that be helpful?" Um, and we've gotten some feedback and it's like, "Yeah, I think that would be interesting." So what we're going to do is build out a public chat room, uh, within the app. So anybody can go in there at any point in time, uh, you need to download the app and register of course, and create an account. Um, but once you do that, there'll be a public chat room that you'll be able to chat with people and connect with people and just talk about things.Um, and I can see that, you know, happening, uh, in a bunch of different ways, uh, which I'm really excited about. I'm hoping that, that will create a more authentic place to connect with people. Um, in future versions of the apps, you'll, or in the app, excuse me, you'll see that we will do, um, kind of theme or topic based chat rooms to um, if you know the public chat is successful, so that's one of the first features that were building out. Uh, the second one is values based matching. Um, so this is a big one that people were really excited about. Um, it's actually the one that I'm probably the most excited about. Um, so what does that mean and what does that look like? So value based matching is the ability to match with another human that shares similar values to you.So when you log into the app and register and you go in to do the matching, you'll be asked to do a short, very, very short values quiz, which helps determine what your values are. Um, so it's, it was actually a quiz developed by some Stanford researchers and we've adopted it, um, to kind of work within the application. So it's going to ask you not necessarily questions, but it's going to ask you to kind of sort through priorities and through your particular values and then stack rank them. Um, so you'll have to stack rank your top five, [inaudible 00:04:04] your top 10, top five, and then your number one value. And then once you have those, we'll then match you with other users, um, that share similar values to you. Um, and then you can connect with them and talk with them. Um, there's a bunch of research that shows that values based connections and values based matching is far more successful in the long run than any other type of matching. So I'm really passionate about that, because I don't want ...

Hello everybody, this is Adam Evers. I am the CEO and founder of believr and this is Inside believr, building an LGBTQ+ Christian dating app. In this episode, we'll be going through a couple of things, uh, like meeting the team. We'll be talking through our core values a little bit and then I have some updates for you as well. Um, so, let's get in. So, first and foremost, um, it's not just me behind the scenes, uh, with believr. There's a whole group of people, um, five in particular, uh, that I wanna introduce you to. So, first I'll start off with, uh, you can read more and, and see the lovely faces of all these humans if you go to believr.app/about, um, and it's talks about our team. Um, and if you'd like to join the team, uh, we do have spaces in, um, we do have positions available and open. Feel free to email hello, H-E-L-L-O,@believr.app. It's hello@believr.app. Great. So, let's get started. Uh, so first and foremost, uh, that you have my cellph- I'm Adam Evers. I'm the CEO and founder of the company. Um, and, then you also have Brandon Flanery who is the cofounder and content director. Um, so Brandon, I'll give you a quick little update or no, update but a quick little info session on each of these people and how I know them. Um, so Brandon Flanery, uh, I've known since high school. He's one of my oldest and longest and dearest friends. Um, we've been to Thailand together and Cambodia and Korea? Yeah. Uh, we've also been to Barcelona. We've traveled a bunch and he's just a really, really good friend of mine. Um, he is the one that smacks me down whenever I have a horrible idea, um, or if my ego gets too big for me. (laughs) um, he's a really good dude, um, and my best friend in the world. So, um, I love and appreciate him and he, uh, uh, uh, is in charge of all the content for, uh, believr. Um, so that means, all of the pretty words and all the great words, um, on in the app as well as just our core values and, uh, the blog, the copy on the website, all of that is really, um, from Brandon's mind and creativity. Um, and just from, uh, a larger strategic perspective, it was really important to me have somebody who is, uh, well versed in just content and being able to write and write well and tell stories and narratives, um, because that's just important part of, um, of crafting a business, um, and it's something that, uh, I unfortunately am not good at. (laughs) and, so, Brandon definitely fills a gap there for me. So, I really appreciate it. Um, great. Next we have Erika. So, Erika is a design strategist. She, uh, comes actually from a recommendation from another gentleman named Pascal. I want to get to Pascal in a second. So, Erika is in charge of user research and user design. So, she has been working with us, uh, x- for a long time now, uh, basically building out user experience flows, user, uh, testing, user research just to make sure that whatever we build is, um, designed specifically with our user in mind. Um, so, she's already done, um, uh, bunch of user research and we've had a fairly good response from the community which has been awesome. So, thank you for that. Um, now we're actually just about to enter into the phase, uh, where we do, um, it's called moderated user experience testing so what that means is, uh, she will be on a video call walking people through a clickable prototype, um, and getting feedback from them. Um, so that will happen sometime, uh, at the beginning of July. Um, she's recruiting people actually right now. Um, so if you are interested in that, uh, feel free to shoot us an email. Again, it's just hello@believr.app, um, and we can get you in, uh, a cycle for that. The next person on the list I have is Pascal. Um, so, Pascal and I have actually worked together for about, uh, I think it's almost two years. Um, i worked with Pascal, um, at a curi- he ... we hired him when I used to work for a company called Tierion as that ... as their head of marketing, um, to rebuild and do some branding for us and, um, I really, really enjoyed working with him and so I, uh, continued working with him on a couple of projects. Um, and then once I left Tierion and kind of had the idea of believr, I pitched it to him and he was like, "Yeah, I'm on board. Let's do it." Um, and that was really, really cool. So, Pascal is the creative lead for believr. Um, he is, uh, absolutely brilliant. So, any of the visual design elements, uh, on the website, um, from the podcast, uh, to the logos to the branding literally every visual aspect of believr has been created, um, by Pascal. Um, and I can't tell you how much I enjoy working with, um, with him, and, uh, Erika and Brandon. Honestly, all of them are just phen- phenomenal. Um, we also have somebody named Noah. Uh, Noah is a developer. He lives out in Colorado, um, and he, uh, and I have known each other, oh my gosh, for like six years now. Um, so he's, uh, out in Colorado. He's a great developer. Um, he'll be working on the app, um, in the ...

  • Our Core Values - Believe
    Jul 13 2019
Adam: Hello everybody. This is Adam Evers. I am the CEO and founder of Believr, and this is Inside Believr, building an LGBTQ plus Christian dating app.Adam: All right everybody, this is Adam, and I have a special guest with me, Brandon Flannery. Brandon is like-Brandon: Hello. (Laughs).Adam: Brandon would you like to describe in ... Like, who are you? Who is Brandon Flannery?Brandon: Who ... That's such a, um, what's the word I'm looking for, like existential question (laughs).Adam: I can't go that deep on the podcast.Brandon: (Laughs). Um, yeah. I am Brandon Flannery. Um, I've known Adam since I was 14. Um, I, we've had some years together, and um, I am one of the co-founders of Believr, and I work with ... Kind of anything words within Believr as itself, and I also keep Adam in line (laughs).Adam: Fair, fair statement (laughs).Brandon: (Laughs).Adam: Cool. So, today, uh, what I wanted to do on the podcast is actually, um, so Brandon and I, actually the entire team, went through this massive process of really like digging through what we valued as a company. So right now, it's myself, Brandon, um, Pascal, Erika, and, uh, and Noah as well. And we all kind of went through values to figure out, like, what we wanted as our values as a company. Um, so we came together as a team, kind of talked and spit balled about all the values that we all like individually hold, and what we want, like Believr to stand for. Um, and there was like five main ones that kind of bubbled, and surfaced to the top.Adam: Um, and we're going to go through the first one today. Um, on the podcast, and kind of talk about it. Um, and then we can kind of talk to this. And like just, as a side note, Brandon and I have like, we have argued literally about probably every single word in every single one of the sentences that I'm about to read you. Um, we stayed up very late multiple nights talking about this, so these being like a tremendous amount to us.Brandon: And I'm on Mountain Time, so it was a lot later for me (laughs).Adam: (Laughs). That's fair. Brandon's like up until 3:00 a.m. in the morning, and I'm like, "We must finish Brandon." So, yeah. Um, yeah. Would you, would you add anything Brandon?Brandon: No, let's uh, well, I, I will add one thing. Um, as we go through the, the words, um, so we'll have our different values, you will notice that there are actually going to be verbs. And, the intention there is just that we wanted action around what we stand for it. Not just something like, uh, abstract idea, or um, or an adjective describing something. We really wanted to put movement, and um, action to every single thing that we're standing for. So you'll notice that as we go through these, you'll notice that within each of the words. Um, so yeah. But, w-, with the first one, as Adam said it'll be believe, and it's ... We'll be following that, um, format.Adam: Yeah, cool. Uh, and just FYI, we're only going to do believe today, Brandon. We're going to wait, we're going to build other ones, do the rest of them, just so you know. Great.Brandon: No [inaudible 00:02:54] worth, are we Adam? (Laughs).Adam: Yes. Podcast, every time. Get people excited. You got to release them, we have to get people excited, you know? One a week. One a week. We're not going to just divulge everything right now.Brandon: This is where he also keeps me on my knees, I want to say, "Here is everything."Adam: Yeah, and I'm like, "No. Build up the suspense."Brandon: Also though, I, I honestly think the one, the last one is probably the best, but that's just me. Um, and I think fourth is my favorite. Go ahead.Adam: I know, that's interesting. Yeah, fourth we fought on a lot too. Okay, anyways. Sorry. Sorry listeners.Brandon: (Laughs).Adam: Okay, uh, so the first one is believe, um, and I will read it to you now. So believe. We believe in love, we are a people of faith, and we trust that what we are doing has purpose. We believe that every person is worthy of love. We believe that God loves everyone, regardless of how they identify, and we believe what we are doing will create positive change within ourselves, the community, and in the world.Brandon: Uh, it's so good. (Laughs).Adam: I just whatever ... I don't know, I just like whenever I hear these, these values, I just get chills. Um, and I really like this one. Um, so yeah, let's talk about it. Brandon. Why was this one important to you?Brandon: I think the reason It had to be first, and the reason why it came to the surface to begin with is we knew that the pri-, uh, there'll be a lot of things that I'm really excited about with Believr, and what it's standing for, but really this came out of a need. Um, and a need was for LGBTQ people who have a faith in Jesus Christ, and so that, oh, can you still hear me?Adam: Yeah.Brandon: Sorry. My little old thing. It popped up. But, were people of faith, and um, uh, and, I, I wanted to be the, at the forefront, not just for the sake of sh-, showcasing that we are a ...
