You can’t celebrate the Fourth of July without discussing Independence Day. The 1996 classic that turns an American holiday into a global one. The movie that stars Will Smith is overshadowed by the performances and character development of the surrounding cast. The film shouldn’t work on paper, but it defy convention – and a small budget – to give us a spectacle that helped curate the 1990’s flirtation with disasters movies on our way to the new century.
