“Oh, for the Love of…?” is a Green Acres retrospective hosted by Paul and Rick, two longtime fans heading back to Hooterville to revisit one of television’s funniest—and strangest—classic sitcoms.

Join us as we follow Oliver and Lisa Douglas, Mr. Haney, Eb, the Ziffels, Arnold the Pig and the rest of the wonderfully eccentric residents of Hooterville. We’ll revisit the episodes one at a time, sharing favorite moments, behind-the-scenes stories, trivia, personal memories, and plenty of laughs along the way.

Green Acres was much more than a show about a New York lawyer who traded Manhattan for a broken-down farm. It was wonderfully absurd television that frequently seemed to know it was a television show—and wasn't afraid to let the audience in on the joke.

“Oh, for the Love of…?” is part of the Aunt Ro Was Right family of podcasts—celebrating the classic television shows Paul grew up watching, despite his Aunt Ro repeatedly warning his mother:

“Paul watches too much TV.”

Turns out… Aunt Ro was right. 📺

Hosted by Paul and Rick.

  • Episode 2: Lisa's First Day on the Farm
    Oct 13 2026

Episode Title: S1E2: "Lisa’s First Day on the Farm" (with Special Guests from the Shady Rest!)
    Episode Description:
Well, throw out that Park Avenue wardrobe and grab a feather duster—Lisa Douglas has officially arrived at the farm, and Aunt Ro was right all along!
In this episode of Oh, for the Love of Green Acres Tribute, hosts Paul and Rick break down Season 1, Episode 2, "Lisa’s First Day on the Farm." Lisa is coming face-to-face with peeling wallpaper, uninvited livestock, and the harsh realities of rural living, but the real treat is another crossover visit from Hooterville royalty: the incomparable Bea Benaderet (Kate Bradley) and Edgar Buchanan (Uncle Joe Carson)!
Join Paul and Rick as they take a deep dive into:

    • The Brilliant Bea Benaderet: From her legendary voice work in Golden Age radio (The Jack Benny Program, Fibber McGee and Molly) and voicing Betty Rubble on The Flintstones, to playing Cousin Pearl Bodine on The Beverly Hillbillies.
    • Building a Show Around a Star: How series mastermind Paul Henning was so captivated by Bea's talent that he created Petticoat Junction specifically as a vehicle for her.
    • The True Origins of Petticoat Junction: The real-life inspiration behind the Shady Rest Hotel, born from Ruth Henning reminiscing about her family owning a hotel near the railroad tracks in Eldon, Missouri.
    • Uncle Joe Being Uncle Joe: Edgar Buchanan back in action, dishing out "help" that usually creates twice the work.
    • Scene Breakdowns & Laughs: Oliver’s blind agrarian optimism versus Lisa’s glamorous bewilderment as the farm house makes its hilarious first impression.

Grab a cup of coffee (just don't let Lisa make the hotscakes), sit back on the porch, and join us in Hooterville!

    • The Creative Genesis: Insights gleaned from legendary creator Paul Henning’s Television Academy interviews, creator Jay Sommers’ genuine farm upbringing, and his classic radio predecessor, Granby’s Green Acres.
    • The Path Not Taken: S.J. Perelman’s hilarious 1947 book Acres and Pains, which inspired an unsold TV pilot starring none other than Walter Matthau.
    • The "City Folk Go Country" Phenomenon: Betty MacDonald’s best-selling memoir The Egg and I, the smash-hit film adaptation that launched universal favorites Ma and Pa Kettle, and how it shaped the American rural comedy landscape.
    • Familiar Faces & Legendary Character Actors: The great Edgar Buchanan crossing over from Petticoat Junction to reprise Uncle Joe Carson, and distinguished character actor Willis Bouchey (The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance) stepping in as Oliver’s exasperated law firm boss.
    • The Maestro of Surreal Sound: Vic Mizzy’s genius behind the indelible theme song and pitch-perfect musical cues.
    • Classic End-Credit Moments: Eva Gabor’s immortal sponsor sign-off—“This has been a Filmways presentation, darling!”—and a heartfelt nod proving that Aunt Ro was right all along: there really is no such thing as too much TV!

Plus, stick around to hear a preview of what’s in store for our upcoming bonus episodes this season, including a deep-dive look at the Ma and Pa Kettle films and our special Halloween tribute to Vic Mizzy’s spooky, brilliant score for Don Knotts' The Ghost and Mr. Chicken!
