This podcast is about finding the things that matter most, the things that are important and which we might have forgotten or need to rediscover for ourselves. It is about reflection and gaining perspective on things which we might have neglected, buried, or missed. It is about rediscovery of who we are, who we were made in the image of God. It is about becoming who we were made to be, because that is what we should be and the best thing we can ever be. And it is about embracing that to its fullest, abundant and expansive design because that is what why we are here and what we were made to give. Throughout my life it has become evident that everyone is searching for a reason to be, often verbalised as “Why am I here?” or “What is my purpose here?” It took a while for me to discover my passion and I am probably what some would call a late starter. But my passion is to see restoration of God’s creation, of His people, of identity. I was fake and tried to be some concoction of what I thought the world wanted me to be when I was young. However, we are all made to be truly unique and authentic in who we are and if there is one thing I could leave with anyone, it is this: “You need to find who you are, grow that, build that and master it so you can be the best version of you that you can be because the world needs that.” I see most people not knowing who they are, especially the youth. And life becomes so busy or so hard that they never find the time to answer that question and so never fully grasp that. Instead, many of us grab and hold on to things that have some measure of meaning for us and that makes us feel good or successful. But those things are not necessarily related to who we are. We have to spend effort to dig deep, scratch not just the surface but do a deep dive, to discover the gems, those precious treasures that make each of us become what God intended and designed. Sometimes it is painful and sometimes we are so far removed from that that we have to go on a long journey, sometimes perilous, to hopefully and finally reach the point where we know who we are and where that which we are adds value and shines and sparkles like a diamond in a way that only fits with who we are. What is amazing, is to imagine what that looks like for each of us and realising that when everyone shines like that, that we can change the world. Just imagine what the world would be like if we would but walk only in what we each truly and uniquely are! Everything around us can either pull us away or draw us towards that which we were made. It’s like 2 Corinthians 3:18 says, we become that which we behold. Do we search out the things that are true and honourable, pure and fair as Philippians 4:8 speaks about or do we pursue the things that make us less than what and who we are? I hope to share lessons and give messages that exhort, build up, encourage and guide others. May this be a platform for thoughts, views, questions that will help improve and grow people to improve their own lives and have fuller life.Copyright 2026 Bernd Oellermann
  • Stop, be still...
    May 11 2026

    Summary:

We have become too busy and do not take enough time out to pause and just recenter, ground or anchor ourselves. The more we work to have time for ourselves, the less time we seem to have. Compare how fast and efficient things are, e.g. sending letters before the Internet vs email. Are we losing ourselves in this? It is like vanity and grasping for wind as the Book Ecclesiastes says. We are prisoners to this way of life. Are you concerned with 'where the world is going'? Are we missing the important things? The first step in addressing this is to Stop, Pause and becoming still. (Exodus 14:14; Ps 46:10; Matt 11:28)

Consider the practices of teatime, going home for lunch, siesta, tea ceremony, and coffee ceremony. (Heb 4:9-10; Matt 6:27)

Applying the principle of stopping, pausing and being still: Take time out. Make a good cup of coffee (or tea or cocoa). Sit in a quiet spot. Breathe through your nose and out through your mouth. Relax your muscles starting with your shoulders. Engage all your senses in the moment, starting with smell, taste, feel. Become silent for 5 minutes.

    Peace. (Philippians 4:6-7; John 14:27)

Don't become a dam. Let the water flow, i.e. share what works for you.

A second approach could be to have early morning quiet time, especially combining it with prayer (Mark 1:35)

Becoming still is fundamental to the restoration of who we are.

Life is too short not to have a good cup of coffee.
