 This morning on the AIRED OUT Podcast I was joined by Eric J. Buzzetto, Physical Education teacher at JFK Elementary in the Brewster, NY School District — and what a powerful conversation it was. Eric doesn’t just teach physical education… he builds culture.
Through the Sweethearts & Heroes framework, he has transformed his gym into more than a place for fitness. It’s a space where courage is practiced, kindness is modeled, accountability is encouraged, and every student is reminded they matter. He shared a lot about how Rick Yarish, Tom Murphy and the rest of the Sweethearts & Heroes team have made real change in his school. And how being intentional with energy and language can completely shift the tone of a school day. Perhaps most impactful was his reminder that culture isn’t created in assemblies alone — it’s built daily, in the small moments, by adults who choose to “be that teacher.” Eric’s passion is proof that when educators lead with heart, students rise.
