Episode 10: (A)rmored closes our special Week of ALPHA series on The ALPHA Podcast.

This week, we have been breaking down the full ALPHA mentality at North Greenville University: Aggressive, Loyal, Prepared, Humble, and Armored. Each daily episode focuses on one letter and one part of the standard that shapes how our program lives, trains, competes, and grows.

In this final episode, Nate Garner and Jim Padgett sit down with John Deal to talk about the meaning of Armored, especially being armored by the Word of God. John shares how he grew up in church but did not have a real living relationship with the Lord until 2020, when a sermon from Hebrews about drifting away convicted him and changed the direction of his faith.

John also talks about the powerful influence of his father, a high school football coach who used football as ministry, and how his father’s battle with ALS and passing shaped his life and faith. He explains how scripture, especially Romans 8:28-30, anchored him through suffering and helped him trust God when life was not easy.

The conversation also gets into what being armored looks like in everyday football life, from early workouts and film room to rehab, practice, Friday football Bible study, and using football as a way to glorify God. This episode is about real faith, real suffering, real identity, and the kind of foundation that can carry a person through anything.

Key takeaway: Being armored means being rooted in the Word of God, grounded in your identity as a child of God, and anchored in truth through both competition and suffering.
