Another vague invitation on LinkedIn. Someone I vaguely know from a workshop three years ago. I always wonder: should I accept this?Maarten: Haha, ja, dat is altijd de vraag. Ik accepteer ze meestal wel. Je weet nooit waar het goed voor is.Haha, yeah, that's always the question. I usually accept them. You never know what it might be good for.Lisa: Echt? Ik vind het soms zo ongemakkelijk. Dan voelt het alsof ik moet netwerken, maar ik wil gewoon mijn werk doen.Really? I sometimes find it so awkward. But then you do have to update your profile properly. Oh wait... I don't even think my last job is on there yet.Maarten: Ja precies. Ik werk mijn profiel ongeveer elke zes maanden bij. Ik vul dan nieuwe vaardigheden aan en voeg projecten toe waar ik trots op ben.Yes, exactly. I update my profile about every six months. I add new skills and projects I'm proud of.Lisa: Zie je, zo gestructureerd ben ik dus niet. Ik stel dat altijd uit. Ik heb het gisteren nog bekeken en dacht: 'morgen'. Maar die morgen is nog niet gekomen.See, I'm not that structured. I always put it off. I looked at it yesterday and thought: 'tomorrow'. But that tomorrow hasn't come yet.Maarten: Dat herken ik wel, hoor. Maar het is een kleine moeite. Wat ik wel vervelend vind, zijn die eindeloze berichten die mensen plaatsen over hoe succesvol ze zijn.I recognize that, though. But it's a small effort. What I do find annoying are those endless posts people make about how successful they are.Lisa: Oh ja, verschrikkelijk! Iedereen heeft het 'nederig' over zijn successen. 'Ik ben zo dankbaar dat ik werd uitgenodigd om te spreken...' Lekker belangrijk.Oh yeah, terrible! Everyone 'humbly' talks about their successes. 'I'm so grateful I was invited to speak...' Who cares.Maarten: Haha, ja. Eigenlijk is het net als met andere sociale media. Iedereen laat alleen de beste kant zien.Haha, yeah. Actually, it's just like with other social media. Everyone only shows their best side.Lisa: Precies! En dan heb je nog de WhatsApp-groepen. Dat is weer een heel ander universum.Exactly! And then you have the WhatsApp groups. That's a whole different universe.Maarten: Zeker. Ik heb de meldingen van de meeste groepen standaard uitgezet. Anders word ik de hele dag afgeleid.Definitely. I have the notifications for most groups turned off by default. Otherwise, I'd be distracted all day.Lisa: Ik ook! Vooral die van de familie-app. Die gaat de hele dag door.Me too! Especially the family app. That goes on all day.Maarten: Oh ja, die ken ik. Bij ons delen ze vooral foto's van de kleinkinderen. Dat is nog wel schattig.Oh yeah, I know that one. In our group, they mostly share photos of the grandchildren. That's still cute.Lisa: Bij ons gaat het over politiek. Dan haak ik meteen af. Maar de buurt-app is het ergst. Iemand had laatst een heel A4'tje geplaatst over een verkeerd geparkeerde fiets.In our group, it's about politics. I immediately tune out then. But the neighborhood app is the worst. Someone recently posted a whole A4 page about a wrongly parked bicycle.Maarten: Nee! Daar doe ik dus echt niet aan mee. Zonde van de energie. Ik verliet laatst ook zo'n groep.No!
