This week, we're chatting with two amazing dancers and artists, Shyamla Eswaran @shyamla.e and Sarangi Rupasinghe @sarangi.r from the South Asian Fusion Arts company BINDI BOSSES @bindibosses. BINDI BOSSES is a matriarchal movement that amplifies the marginalised stories of First Nations, South Asians, and People of Colour by blending Traditional, Contemporary, Folk, and Street dances from around the world.

In today's episode, we unravel how:

  • immersing yourself in cultural styles of dance can enrich the connection to your own culture.
  • fusing traditional and modern styles of dance can create art that is authentically you.
  • you can use dance as a tool to decolonise and unpack your privilege.
  • learning and collaborating with First Nations people can help you create meaningful art and enrich your understanding of the land you’re on.

Be sure to watch BINDI BOSSES' work SIGNS - a collaboration between South Asian and First Nations artists expressing the devastating effects of, and intersections between, climate change, colonisation, mass land clearing, and rising temperatures in Western Sydney.
