  • Cyber Career Chat with Professor Greg Austin

    Dr Greg Austin leads the Program on Cyber, Space and Future Conflict at the International Institute of Strategic Studies (IISS). He also holds an appointment  as Professor of Cyber Security, Strategy and Diplomacy at UNSW Canberra where he set up one of the world’s first Master’s programs in a public university on cyber war and peace. He has a 40-year career in international security affairs, with specialisation in cyber policy, counter-terrorism, China and Russia. He has led consultancy teams for the UK and Australian governments. Greg has worked with leaders in government and business, and with diplomats, from many countries (China, Russia, UK, USA, France, Germany) and international organisations . Greg has led several high-profile multinational research and policy projects with visible impact. He has published four books on cyber space issues and five other books on international security as author, co-author or editor. Greg is co-founder of the Social Cyber Institute and is author to several books and most recently "Cyber Security Education: Principles and Policies".  Which I would like to further explore today.   • Cyber Career Chat with Allyn Radford - VP Strategy and Credentialing

    Allyn has been involved in the use of technology in learning for more than 30 years across a range of industries including education, defense, aerospace and government. During that time, he has worked for organisations such as University of Melbourne, RMIT University, Open Learning Australia (now Open Universities Australia), HarvestRoad Ltd, Cisco, and the Australian Computer Society. He has led projects in Australia, the United States, Mexico and South Korea.  As inaugural CEO of DeakinDigital, a wholly owned subsidiary of Deakin University, he led innovation in the development and implementation of Alternative Digital Credentials (ADCs) and developed the world’s first Masters of Professional Practice degrees based on ADCs together with Deakin University.  Allyn has been providing strategic consulting and workshops to Australian universities and international clients as an independent consultant with a special focus on transformational practices using credentialing. His work also included advisory board roles and the Academic and Quality Committee for TAFE SA.  In 2020 he also launched a new startup, C2People. This new venture is focused on career credentialing and career mapping in a powerful consortium of Australian and international companies working towards common goals.     Samira Tollo CTO and co-founder of Elbaite (P2P cryptocurrency exchange) and a blockchain consultant with IBM is passionate about growing Australian grown blockchain use cases. She is an electrical engineer with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (Honours) from The University of Queensland. Samira’s accomplishments in the field have been recognised, in 2020 she was a finalist for Rising star of the year 2020 in the Women in Digital National Awards, during her time in University she was awarded with Electrical Engineering Alumni Advantage Scholarship and a Supporting Women Scholarship. Samira’s final-year thesis project was the development of an innovative smart fridge, which was recognised in an article written by The University of Queensland.  She is passionate about all things tech and wants to encourage more young Australians to start tech companies.     Bethany Cooper is an incident responder with a passion for cybersecurity. At the age of 21 while still at university, she started working within the incident response team at Gridware with a dedication to battling evil in cyberspace. In her spare time, she enjoys reading about (and sometimes developing!) the latest vulnerabilities and exploits, performing OSINT on cyber threat groups for her research, and playing video games with her friends. After completing the SANS FOR508 course and attaining her GCFA certification, her recent research has focused on the motivations and techniques of Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) groups. Melissa studied organisational culture and leadership. Successfully led strategic business development across various organisations and government. She empowers others to achieve career goals, cultivates self-confidence, and in turn influence recruiters and hiring manager's perspectives. Melissa has a Master's degree and senior management experience, and has personally hired 100s and read 1000s of resumes. Melissa has managed the HR team and understood the psychology behind a Manager selecting a candidate to be shortlisted. Melissa is an avid learner with a strength in research and was determined to provide unsuccessful applicants a chance. She is a kind-hearted human being who notes down applicants’ strengths and understands individuals have families to feed, bills to pay and believes every person deserves happiness. Melissa would have loved to be able to hire them all, but only had one position available in her department budget.
