    This weeks podcast guest:
Mark Sanders - Mark Malibu - Mark Wasaga

    Music:
First creative endeavor that got any attention was the Wasagas. Underage kids playing surf music in the Toronto Punk scene.  That introduced me to a creative group of musicians, writers, photographers, painters everything. From that group we started an all ages club that lasted 5 years where DJs played the latest punk, ska, reggae. rockabilly music and young bands got their chance to perform.
However I caught the electronic music bug. Steve and I from Wasagas joined guys 10 years older and formed Directions East. I left that band before a record was to be released on a major label.  What I really wanted to do was compose for Film and TV.   I did return to live music in 2012 with a rockabilly band, the Millwinders and revived the Wasagas in 2014.

I’m a totally self taught filmmaker… I got a job in a music store and became the go-to person in the city for music software, met all the local composers in order to acquire an apprenticeship. After some time, the composer recommended me for an assistant Sound Editor position which I took around 1987. I was officially a freelancer and found work in live action (Counterstrike) and animation. (Beetlejuice, The Adventures of Tintin)

In the early 90s I made the move to Picture Editor and began editing direct to VHS films like Ski School 2 and Mask of Death. Spent time editing preschool animated shows like Franklin the Turtle and Little Bear. My desire was to get into broadcast TV and moved from tween 1/2 hour like Radio Free Roscoe and moved onto the Good Witch for Hallmark channel, picture editing 3 MOWs and 3 seasons of TV.

In order to become a better story teller, I studied film/TV writing at George Brown College. Not only did I complete the course, the college contacted me regarding teaching which I declined. I did run a creative writing workshop out of my home in Toronto for several years which lead to me becoming the director of the Script Development Program at the Female Eye Film Festival for 10 years.

The writing lead to directing and then producing. My independent short films screened at well over 100 festivals around the world and won many awards. Attempting to acquire funding for a feature film script, I accidentally founded a film company that produced several direct to DVD films like “House of the Rising Sun” with Dave Bautista. However film company executive wasn't for me so I went back to editing full time.

I currently edit the family cop TV series “Hudson and Rex” which I am very proud of.

Strictly as a side hobby, I began taking pictures… of dogs only. Suddenly I had several photos in calendars, pocket calendars and then requests came for books “How to Handle Living with your Dog” as well as a couple sales to Animal Planet for a documentary series on dogs.
