Paul had just commanded them to set their minds on things above because they had been raised with Christ. Now he addresses the practical implications of that heavenly mindset—what must die in their daily habits and what must come alive. The word "therefore" at the beginning of verse 5 connects their union with Christ directly to the habits they must eliminate and embrace.
