Luna sits alone at the motel front desk, the register open to a name that shouldn't be there. In Case File: Vacancy, every episode checks into a different room of dread — a traveler who vanishes between floors, a housekeeper who finds a room locked from inside with no guest, a phone that rings from a room demolished decades ago. The stories are self-contained, each a closed case file of the strange and still-unsolved, told in Luna's low, intimate voice as if she's reading from that leather register by the glow of the No Vacancy sign. No two keys fit the same lock; no two episodes share a monster. What unifies them is the motel itself — a liminal space where the night clerk has seen too much, where the thin walls hold whispers, and where the vacancy sign never goes dark. Pull up a chair at the front desk. Listen to the stories Luna tells when the last guest has checked in.

  • The Matches at the Bluebird Motor Court — Fexingo Horror
    May 7 2026
A story about a stretch of old Route 66 in Oklahoma, a motel called the Bluebird Motor Court, and a woman named Eleanor who ran it alone. Luna stopped there one August night in 2017 and found a front desk drawer full of matchbooks from the 1970s. The matches were the kind that light when you strike them. That night, she learned why the Bluebird never had a vacancy sign lit — and why Eleanor always kept a fresh matchbook in her apron pocket.

  • The Echo at the Dusty Creek Motor Inn — Fexingo Horror
    May 6 2026
A late autumn night at the Dusty Creek Motor Inn, a faded motor court off a county route in eastern Colorado. Luna is filling in for a friend when a man in a charcoal sedan pulls in after midnight. He checks in with cash, no small talk, and leaves his headlights on for seven minutes before cutting them. Nothing happens that night that anyone could call a crime. But the next morning Room 14 is empty, the receipt still folded on the dresser, and a voice note on the motel answering machine captures something the county deputy can't explain. Luna listens to it, and now she can't stop thinking about the difference between what a person says and what a room remembers. This is a story about the sound of a life coming apart — recorded accidentally, played back deliberately, and never erased.

  • The Register at the Moondance Inn — Fexingo Horror
    May 5 2026
A hot August night in 2003. Luna works the front desk at the Moondance Inn, a tired motel off Route 9 in western Massachusetts. A man checks in alone, pays cash, and asks for a room at the far end of the lot. He carries no luggage except a leather satchel. Over the next three days, Luna watches him come and go at odd hours, always returning before dawn. On the third night, she finds the guest register open to his page. The entry is smudged, the ink weirdly dry, and next to his signature is a symbol she didn't see him draw. She looks up his room number on the key rack. The key is still there. He never returned it. She walks the lot to room 14. The door is unlocked. Inside, the room is cold, the bed untouched, and on the nightstand lies the satchel, open, empty except for a single photograph—a polaroid of the motel itself, taken from the road, with a light on in a window that doesn't exist. Luna ends the story not knowing what she witnessed, only that the register holds one more name now, and she'll never forget the feeling of that cold air on her skin.
