• Intentional Joy: Rooted in Trust, Not Circumstance
    Mar 15 2026

Midway through Lent, when the desert feels long and Easter still seems distant, the Church gives us one surprising command: Rejoice.

In this deeply reflective conversation, Kimberly Souba sits down with nationally known Catholic speaker, musician, and comedian, Doug Brummel, who uses storytelling to bring joy and catechesis to all. Together, they will explore what intentional joy truly means — not as personality, performance, or positivity, but as a theological choice rooted in worship.

Through Doug’s early ministry, Lighten Up, and now through The Doug and Dave Show, he has helped countless teens and adultsencounter a faith that sings, thinks, and breathes. But this episode moves beyond the stage into the personal: vocation, suffering, fatherhood, prayer, and the Eucharistic heart of joy.

Together, Kimberly and Doug reflect on how joy is not postponed until relief comes. It is chosen — even in the desert.

If you feel dry this Lent — not angry, not rebellious — just tired, this episode is for you.

    Together, they explore:

    • Joy as vocation and response to a personal encounter with Christ
    • The relationship between theology and joy
    • What happens when theology loses joy — and when joy loses truth
    • Worship and weakness after Doug’s West Nile virus diagnosis
    • Choosing joy in suffering and spiritual limitation
    • Marriage and fatherhood as formation in faithful joy
    • The domestic church and everyday endurance
    • Whether intentional joy is Eucharistic — thanksgiving before circumstances change
    • How to begin again when prayer feels dry
    • Practicing joy when it feels fragile

    This Week’s Reflection:

    • Where is God inviting you to choose joy intentionally right now
    • Is your joy rooted in circumstances — or in Christ?
    • What small act of thanksgiving can you practice this week before anything changes?

    Invitation:

Intentional joy may not begin with emotion. It may begin with practice:

    • Sing if you can.
    • Pray even when it feels thin.
    • Give thanks before circumstances change.
    • Trust God more than the chapter you are currently living.

  • Intentional Almsgiving: Showing Up with Love
    Mar 8 2026

    What does almsgiving really mean?

For many of us, it starts and ends with money. But in this Lenten episode of The Butterfly Girl Podcast, Kimberly Souba invites listeners to expand that definition — to see almsgiving as the generous offering of our time, presence, hospitality, listening, and love.

Kimberly is joined by her longtime friend of over 30 years, Brett Cummings — better known to many as “Yogi.” Their friendship began in high school and has continued through life’s many seasons: marriage, adoption, health challenges, ministry work, and everyday faithfulness.

In this heartfelt conversation, Brett shares:

    • The story behind his nickname “Yogi”

    • How meeting his wife shaped his understanding of service and generosity

    • Their involvement in Steubenville Youth Conferences and serving behind the scenes

    • What “showing up with love” looks like in ordinary life

    • How adoption and fatherhood deepened his understanding of sacrifice

    • The importance of hospitality and keeping an open home

    • How to avoid burnout while living generously

    • Practical ways to live out almsgiving beyond financial giving

This episode is a reminder that generosity doesn’t have to be loud to be life-changing. Most of the time, it looks like small, faithful acts: a phone call, a meal, a listening ear, a prayer.

As you continue your Lenten journey, ask yourself:

Who is God inviting me to show up for this week — and what would love look like in that moment?

  • Fasting: Making Space for God
    Mar 1 2026

Fasting doesn’t exactly sound cozy. But what if it isn’t meant to be?

In this episode of the Butterfly Girl Podcast, Kimberly Souba invites you to reimagine fasting not as punishment, deprivation, or spiritual performance, but as an invitation. An invitation to awareness. To freedom. To deeper relationship with God.

This conversation gently reframes fasting as something far more relational than rigid. It is not about proving anything to God. It is not about perfection, control, or suffering. It is about noticing. Noticing what we reach for when we are stressed, tired, overwhelmed, or trying to cope. Noticing the attachments that quietly shape our days. Noticing where God may be inviting us to let go so He can fill that space with something better.

Through honest personal storytelling, reflection on Jesus in the desert, Scripture, and guided prayer, Kimberly explores why fasting feels uncomfortable and why that discomfort can actually be holy. Lent is not about survival. It is about surrender. It is about making intentional choices that create sacred space for grace to move in our everyday lives.

Fasting is not about control. It is about freedom. It is not about suffering. It is about making space.

In This Episode, You’ll Reflect On:

    • Why fasting feels uncomfortable
    • What fasting reveals about our attachments
    • Emotional fasting, not just food
    • Letting go of shortcuts and control
    • Practical ways to fast beyond food in daily life
    • How small sacrifices can create space for spiritual growth

    Reflection Invitation:

    • What do I reach for automatically?
    • What might God be inviting me to release this Lent so He can fill that space with His presence?

If this episode encouraged you, share it with someone walking through Lent too.

  • Making Room at the Inn: Surrendering What I Can't Carry
    Dec 21 2025

In this Advent episode, I share openly about the emotional weight I have been carrying these last few weeks. Family tension, the declining health of loved ones, and the struggle to stay focused at work have left my heart feeling crowded and tired.

As I reflect on my own experience, I talk about what God has been teaching me about making room at the inn when life feels overwhelmingly full. The nativity story comes alive in a new way as I consider how God enters the messy and imperfect places of my life rather than the polished ones.

I also share how I am learning to surrender what I cannot carry and how even a small space in my heart can become a place for Christ to rest.

This episode includes a guided meditation, gentle encouragement, and invitations to create room for peace and spiritual grounding. If you are walking through a heavy season, I hope this conversation brings comfort and companionship.
