Being Black middle class is a complex identity that effortlessly transitions from a Black identity to an acceptable Yuppie existence, donned to comfort corporate and White America's egos. It often leaves the identifier feeling as though we are part of all groups but no group simultaneously. To outsiders, these people are considered “boujee,” a contemporary term closely mirroring the term “boule,” which described the Black elite in the 20th century.

In this week’s episode, we’ll explore what it means to be Black and boujee in America while exploring the history of the term, boule, and who we consider to be a few of the primary “pioneers” of these cultural constructs.
