Black and brown people can’t afford to be fully off of the grid. Y’all want poor people to be burdened with ethical living while living paycheck to paycheck. Those with the most privilege need to put in the most effort. We can’t navigate injustice with unrealistic expectations. Stop getting upset with people for choosing survival over symbolism. Everybody cannot afford your revolution.

Mermaids are often maternal spiritual figures. They are fertility spirits. They are the spirits people petition to get pregnant with babies and businesses. So modern day mermaids are often very protective over children. We are not the people who mind our business when we see abuse taking place.
